The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, in partnership with WLJA - 101.1 FM | Enjoy Cherokee Magazine, is recognizing retiring educators from the Cherokee County School District by donating funds to the Sequoyah Regional Library System. The funds will be used to purchase books for the library branches located in Cherokee County. The books will include a label recognizing all faculty, staff and administrators who retired during the 2022-2023 school year. Each retiree will receive notification that a book is being donated in their honor.
“This is the fifteenth year the Chamber has acknowledged retiring educators for their valuable contribution to the lives of students in Cherokee County. The Chamber is pleased to partner with WLJA - 101.1 FM | Enjoy Cherokee Magazine in this tribute to Cherokee County’s educators,” shared Chamber President & CEO Pam Carnes.

Everyone LOVES Menchie’s Day at RM Moore. Menchie’s is on-site the first Thursday of every month to sell their delicious frozen yogurt to students as part of their “Fun”draiser Program. The school benefits from 15% of the sales, and the students benefit with yummy fro-yo, and Menchie’s benefits in sales. It is a win all the way around! RM Moore appreciates all Menchie's does in making this a fun and easy way to raise money for the school.

On Monday, April 10, the Golden Shovel Award for 2023 was presented to Mollie Guy, 5th Grade Math/Science Teacher and Holly Springs Stem Academy. Rebekah Gibson, Program Coordinator of the Cherokee County Farm Bureau, presented the Golden Shovel plaque, balloon, and monetary prize to Mrs. Guy. “I am honored to receive this award,” stated Mollie, “because it recognizes the effort I have put into growing the Agriculture in the Classroom program at my current school.”
The Golden Shovel award is presented to pre-K through 12th grade teachers who share knowledge of their gardens through social media and websites.
In congruence with her acceptance of the Golden Shovel award, Mollie has been asked to open her gardens for other teachers to tour and learn from, thereby spreading Mollie’s passion and knowledge for keeping the importance of the Agriculture in the Classroom program alive in public schools.
