Please welcome new employee, Rick Vallery!
Rick Vallery has joined the staff of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development as an Outreach Specialist. He will engage with various associations across the state, coordinate efforts with the GOED team and ensure we are continuing to grow the communities in South Dakota. Rick comes to us with a long and impressive history of working in the agriculture industry. Rick will be based out of the Pierre office.

Q: How many years have you been with GOED?
A: I just started with GOED in May, 2019.

Q: What is the most surprising thing you've learned about economic development?
A:One that that has surprised me about economic development is how important relationships are. How hard we work at our relationships professionally and personally, creates a ripple effect for growth to occur.

Q: If you could sum up GOED's purpose in 10ish words, what would that be?
A: GOED's purpose is to help businesses start, grow, or move to the state of South Dakota.

Q: What is the best university in South Dakota and why?
A: As an alumni and former student athlete, the answer is easy: The University of South Dakota. Every day is a great day to be a Yote!

Q: How do you and your family like to spend time together?
A: My family loves sports of all kinds. Competitive could have been my middle name! I spend a lot of my time cheering, coaching, and supporting my kids in their different activities.

Q: What are your favorite snacks?
A: Almonds, especially surrounded by Hershey's chocolate.
