Enhancing School and Business Connections
|
|
As part of the Expand2024 Economic and Workforce Development initiative, the Partnership has launched a suite of programs and activities branded as “Magnify.” These include a series of 20 videos highlighting the 16 nationally recognized career clusters, internships and experiences with employers, and Career TV. Career TV allows the Partnership to deliver video content to each Clark County High School remotely from our office. Examples of information to be shared include career videos, internships, job fairs, business experiences, and career-related content provided by the High Schools. Through the generous support of our investors, the Partnership has provided every high school in Clark County with a 50” TV and a digital media player to deliver content.

Second Harvest Food Bank, CCL which serves Clark, Champaign, and Logan counties has experienced an incredible increase in families experiencing food insecurity due to the pandemic. While many families are experiencing unemployment, child and elder care issues, and healthcare issues impacting their ability to return to the workplace, others have experienced living in poverty for some time. All our local families need nutritious food to get through this pandemic and out the other side even stronger.
We have been very fortunate to have the National Guard serving with us since the beginning of the pandemic. The National Guard has performed all our mobile drive-thru distributions in all three counties, and we anticipate them serving with us through September 2021. As SHFB,CCL moves into another phase of "getting back to normal", we will be transitioning our National Guard members into our warehouse to perform the heavy lifting, sorting, and packing of food. At the same time, we are reaching out to local Clark County businesses, churches, and organizations to partner with us to serve in our outdoor, contactless drive-thru food distribution occurring at the Second Harvest Food Bank, Clark State Community College, Davey Moore Park, New Carlisle Community Gardens, and South Vienna Middle School.
We are looking for groups that can serve one time a month for two hours. We provide all PPE and orientation at each distribution, so your team is ready to serve.
If your business team or local group could join us, please reach out to Melena Prasertsak, Office/Volunteer Manager at (937) 325-8751, ext. 101 or our AmeriCorps VISTA, Volunteer Engagement Assistant, Terri Pyles at (937) 621-3337 for further details. We appreciate your partnership and your compassion for local families struggling with food insecurity.
