Foundation Kicks Off
Annual Giving Campaign
Did you know that Poway Unified School District is one of the lowest funded K12 school districts in the region?
The funding PUSD receives from the state does not allow us to offer the depth and array of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs and experiences our students deserve and other districts are able to provide. For that reason, we count on your financial support every year so that all 35,000 students continue to flourish and achieve extraordinary academic results.
With your donation, the PUSD Foundation will continue to provide life-changing academic experiences and programs including STEAM-focused support, academic competitions and much more. Please consider making a donation by clicking on the button below.

Poway Unified School District
Career Technical Education
Receives CSBA Golden Bell Award
The Poway Unified School District's Career Technical Education (CTE) program was honored by the California School Boards Association (CSBA) with the prestigious Gold Bell Award for its innovative “Jump-Starting Pathways to Rewarding Careers” program.
The CTE program provides educational experiences in a variety of industry sectors, from agriculture, engineering, and business, to arts, construction, and health careers. Exposure to CTE pathways starts as early as elementary school. Through these programs, students learn about their strengths, interests, and passions. CTE provides students with real-world, hands-on experiences in a career area that interests them and that connects them to their core academics.
“Earlier exposure and exploration of these areas helps to inspire more students in pursuing their passions and dreams in high school, college, and future careers." said Poway Unified School District Superintendent, Marian Kim Phelps.
Over the past several years, the CTE department has worked with school site leaders, counselors, and teachers to improve access, equity and for students of color, students with disabilities, English learners, female students in STEM, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and students in foster care or experiencing homelessness. As a result, enrollment in CTE courses has grown 70% districtwide.

Phamatech Sponsors Red Ribbon Week
The Red Ribbon Campaign is an annual national drug prevention program which aims to bring awareness and education to students and their families. This year, the PUSD Foundation was able to purchase 20 thousand Red Ribbons for all elementary school students in the District. A very big thank you to our Red Ribbon sponsor, Phamatech Laboratories, for donating the cost of the red ribbons. During the campaign, students were asked to pledge to pursue a healthy and responsible life by living drug free!
Resources for parents and students can also be found on the Poway Unified School District website under Student Safety, Student Resources. For more information about Phamatech Laboratories and their products, click here.

Balfour Beatty honored as
Business Partner of the Year
Tim Berry, Vice President of Balfour Beatty received the Business Partner Award at the Starstruck Recognition Dinner on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Tim Berry and April Medlin have been dedicated supporters of our District's construction and building trades programs and many of our schools.
As a member of Women in Construction (WIC), April spearheaded a unique partnership between the CTE Construction and Trades Pathway and the Julia Morgan Society, a program of WIC. Julia Morgan Society volunteers educate students about careers in the construction industry. On a monthly basis, speakers were invited to speak with students to discuss their careers. In this informal setting, students had the opportunity to learn about a variety of construction-related industries from business professionals.
In 2020, Balfour Beatty's California team and the San Diego Green Building Council partnered with Poway Unified School District to host their ninth annual Green Apple Day of Service. Garden Road Elementary School was selected to receive an outdoor interactive learning classroom, accommodating students returning to school. The outdoor space at Garden Road is a launching pad for STEAM projects at the school.
The Business Partner of the Year Award is presented annually to a business that provides resources of time, financial support, and works with the PUSD Foundation to support the overall District's mission.
