The Poway Unified School District Recognition Dinner honored the teacher and classified staff of the year from each PUSD school at the annual celebration. In addition, the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) selected the 2022 Administrators of the Year for Region 18 (San Diego and Imperial Counties), three of whom proudly serve the Poway Unified School District. Lana Nguyen, Director of Educational Technology, received the Technology Administrator of the Year award; Yael Bozzay, Rancho Bernardo High Assistant Principal, received the Secondary Co-Administrator of the Year award; and Ricardo Ceceña, Valley Elementary Principal, received the Elementary Principal of the Year award.
The Administrator of the Year awards recognize outstanding performance and achievement by individual administrators, and are given at both regional and state levels. Recipients of the awards are chosen based on their demonstration of exceptional leadership, commitment to educational quality, professional growth, and student achievement, and display of creativity and innovation in overcoming issues facing public education.

The Poway USD Foundation also selected two long-time business partners to receive awards. Alain Azcona, CEO of Aurora Behavioral Health Care received the Business Partner of the Year award, and Maureen Roadman, Executive Director of Explore Solutions received the Student Impact Award.

This annual celebration which honors PUSD volunteers and staff is made possible by the many contributions of our business partners. Please save the date for the next Gala Event & Recognition Dinner, which will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.

College and Career Fair

The Poway Unified School District’s annual College and Career Fair was held at Mt. Carmel High School on April 21, 2022. This annual event is designed to provide high school students with information about the variety of college and career opportunities available to them. Representatives from 85 colleges, universities, technical schools, apprenticeship programs and the military engaged with over one thousand students and their families to discuss the admissions process and the benefits of their joining their institution.

Engineering and Computer Science Pathways Speakers Series

Over one hundred students attended the Computer Science and Engineering Speakers Series event in May to learn about the many jobs available in these two Career Technical Education Pathways. Each of the six panelists described their current position and day to day responsibilities. In addition, they shared their personal journey about how and why they selected their particular career path, and their educational background. After the session, students were able to visit with speakers to learn more about their specific career.

CTE Students Enrichment Courses Offered this Summer

In July, PUSD middle and high school students will have the opportunity to explore award-winning career pathways and gain career-readiness skills in a small group setting. Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers will provide sessions in Digital Media, Construction Technology, Auto Technology and Career Readiness.
The summer enrichment classes are free, however students will not receive credit towards high school graduation. Space is limited and classes are filling up quickly, so click on the link below to register and for more information.
