25 Years of Partnership

Partnership is part of our organizational DNA — our roots grew out of committed collaborations between governmental and community organizations. Over the past 25 years, the Florida Wildflower Foundation has built its impact not by working alone, but by cultivating a diverse community of partners, each bringing something different to the mix and helping us widen our reach on behalf of Florida’s native wildflowers.

Partnerships have turned a shared love of Florida's wildflowers into real change. Now we're inviting you to be part of what comes next.

This month, that means partnering with us in whatever way fits you best:

• Create a fundraiser — through our link, or on your favorite social media platform — and invite friends and family to join you.
• Share our $25 for 25 campaign, or our stories and posts, with the people in your life.
• Tell someone about FWF — the work we do, the resources we offer, and why it matters to you.

One conversation, one shared post, one small gift — that's how a seed becomes a meadow. And it's how Florida's wildflowers will keep spreading for the next 25 years.

October is Florida Native Plant Month, and we’ve got something really special in store! Watch your inbox, or visit our website, Facebook or Instagram on October 1 for a month-long, limited-edition merch drop celebrating Florida’s incredible diversity of wildflowers that bloom throughout the year.

Garden Spotlight: Deltona Regional Library

The Deltona Regional Library sits alongside the Lyonia Preserve and Environmental Center, where native landscaping plays a key role in preserving the area’s natural heritage and showcasing the beauty and utility of native plants to the public. Their newest garden, funded through a Seeds of Knowledge grant, joins a growing series of demonstration gardens around the building complex.

Meet the Bleeding flower moth

Although the Bleeding flower moth (Schinia sanguinea) is found throughout the eastern half of the United States and into Canada, it is most common in Florida and neighboring southern states. This uniquely camouflaged moth has a special relationship with one of our showiest fall wildflowers, the blazing stars (Liatris spp.).

Plant Profile: Blazing stars

Fall in Florida brings beautiful displays of purple haze, formed by dense stands of our diverse blazing stars (also known as gayfeathers) in the Liatris genus. Sixteen species are found in the state, though only a handful occur statewide, including Graceful blazing star (Liatris gracilis), Dense blazing star (Liatris spicata) and Shortleaf blazing star (Liatris tenuifolia).

Florida's Most Wanted Seeds

The Florida Native Seed Partnership is working to identify the species that could make the biggest difference for Florida’s restoration and conservation needs. Our Priority Species List will evaluate ecological value, restoration demand and commercial production potential to help answer a key question: Which native species should Florida’s seed industry focus on next?

This fall, experts from across the state are helping us refine the list. The goal? Give researchers, producers and land managers a clearer roadmap for building a stronger, more diverse supply of Florida native seed. Building Florida’s native seed supply starts with knowing which species are needed most.
