From Our Pastor,

First, a big thank you to everyone for the beautiful cards and kind words for Pastor Appreciation month! I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community of faith. It is truly an honor to serve as your pastor, particularly in this rich, liminal season. We have a great year ahead of us!

Second, this week is the last week of our series, “An Invitation to Grace!” For You! From God! I have invited you to worship over the last 6 weeks to experience God’s outpouring of grace into the world. This series has introduced us to our Wesleyan faith and the United Methodists’ particular focus on grace.

This week I am preaching from Matthew 25:31-46. In this passage, Jesus reminds us, that which we do unto the least of these, we do unto Jesus. Grace transforms us as individuals. Grace transforms the world. Our faith is always expressed in the service of others. This is not easy…and it is not optional. Graces expresses grace.

You are invited to Grace.

See you Sunday!

Pastor Mark

This Sunday, 10/18, Rev. Dr. Mark Holland will continue his sermon series, An Invitation to Grace. We are the instruments of God’s grace in the world. How we live out our faith tells the world about the love of God. Are we teaching people judgement or are we teaching people mercy? A picture is worth a thousand words.

FAST Meeting

October 18th 12:30

We have one more FAST "house meeting" scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 1A. Thank you to all who have already participated in one of the meetings at PCC, sharing your stories and community concerns. FAST (Faith and Action for Strength Together), the Pinellas County-based Interfaith Justice Ministry network of about 50 congregations of different faith traditions, compiles these stories shared at house meetings throughout the county each year.

This year, FAST leaders have identified five categories that will be brought to a vote at the Annual Assembly on Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg. All network members should attend to hear issue updates, testimonies and choose our community problems. We will choose two of the following categories as the problem areas that FAST will focus on for the coming year

1. Rent and Housing Affordability

2. Daycare and Childcare Cost

3. School Concerns Related to Bullying and Violence

4. Homelessness

5. Elder Care

Voting at the Annual Assembly

Each network member who attends the assembly can participate in voting. Members cannot vote by proxy. There will be about 15 minutes for congregations to caucus and figure out how many members are present and tally their votes for each category. Then a representative from each congregation will line up and report back their numbers. Because we will be voting in TWO categories, each network member gets two votes for the two categories they want to see FAST work on in the coming year. Please note: Network members cannot put both of their votes toward the same category. They must choose two.

All these problems are important. No matter what two problems receive the most votes, FAST will find solutions to address them and urge our local officials to take action to make Pinellas County a better place to live. For more information, please contact Lana Walter at lana@thedartcenter.org.

Wednesday Bible Study Group

DARING FOLKS IN THE BIBLE

6 week study - 9 am on Wednesdays through November

The Bible is full of people who step out in faith and make surprising, daring, and unusual moves. And each of them teaches us something about ourselves, and our spiritual walk with God.

This study will follow the 8 am Chapel Service, so come and "try out" chapel and stay for the study...or come and join the study. Each week's study is independent of the others, so come as you are able. There is no preparation for any class - though bring a Bible as you are able.

We will begin the study in the Gathering Room (next to the Chapel).

Questions? Contact Rev. Lynn Dyke (revladyke@gmail.com)

Scam Alert

There has been another scam attempt sent out under Pastor Mark’s name—but using a fake email. There have been several in the past few months. Two clear ways to know it is a scam:

  1. No Gift Cards! Pastor Mark, nor any member of the PCC staff or leadership, will ever reach out to you personally to buy gift cards (or donate to some cause). No one will solicit donations that do not go to the church directly.
  2. It is from a made-up email account. They put a person you know in the “Name” but if you look at the email, it is not from our @pccumc.org email address.

Please Report it! Every email server allows you to report Spam. If you right-click on an email, typically, a dropdown menu allows you to choose “report spam”. This allows Gmail (or yahoo, or whomever) to shut down these fake emails.

Please report it to the church office so we can warn others. If you EVER wonder, please call or ask using our @pccumc.org emails.

Be careful out there! There are evil people who will try to use the church to steal your money. It is a sad world in which we live.

Blessings, Your Pasadena Church Team

What’s Happening at PCC

So much happened this week! We had a successful Movie night with over 170 people in attendance! We had so much fun! At church this past Sunday the PCC Preschool and Children sang and enjoyed some Kona Ice afterwards! Chapel was a lot of fun on Wednesday, join us next week! And the Ladies that Love the Lord met and cared for our glorious rose Garden! Thanks for all you do!

Food Pantry Donations

The food pantry provided 154 bags of emergency/supplemental food serving 378 household members during our two distributions in September.

All food donations are still greatly appreciated. Canned fruit are a priority this month. Even a few items can add up allowing us to include more in each bag we distribute.
