From Our Pastor,

Buy pumpkins! Buy more pumpkins! Buy lots of pumpkins! Take them to friends and family. Give them to strangers. You can be the Pumpkin Santa! We are in our pumpkin era.

This week I am preaching from Deuteronomy 34:1-12. This passage is about the death of Moses. We find him standing on a hill, talking with God, and looking into the Promised Land that he will never set foot upon. It is the end of an era. An entire generation knew nothing but wandering in the desert. Moses was the last of this generation and he has handed off his leadership to Joshua.

The good news is that God was not done with the people. Our God has created and is creating. Our God always has another era for the people. Here at Pasadena, we are moving from one era to the next. The good news is that God is not done with Pasadena!

See you Sunday!

Pastor Mark

Master Plan Recommendation

Pasadena Vision Statement

Faith, Transforming Me, Transforming Community, Transforming the World

Faith: This is where our Christian beliefs are rooted; it is how we live, make decisions, and treat other people.

Transform: We want a significant (even audacious) action word that speaks to our expectations for ourselves, our community, and our world. We want to be innovative in our transformation!

Transforming Me: Transformation begins with my own faith journey of allowing God to transform me through Jesus Christ. We focus on our faith walk so that we can help transform the community and the world. It is a reminder that we are in a lifelong journey of transformation.

Transforming Community: This is literally Pasadena’s middle name. It is central to who we are. Community means both transforming our relationships with one another inside the church AND transforming the church’s relationship to the broader community of St. Petersburg and Florida Methodists. We recognize that the community transforms us and we help transform the community.

  • Welcoming everyone, multicultural, multi-generational
  • Caring for our members and neighbors
  • Sharing worship and meals
  • Programs for sports, wellness, study, interest groups
  • Letting everyone know they have a “home"

Transforming the World: This seems like the audacious part. Yet, we believe that by working on the transformation of ourselves and our church community, we really can change the world.

  • Educating Children
  • Direct Service, food pantry, street eats, pack-a-snack, etc.
  • Supporting the Florida Conference initiatives
  • Supporting our church in Cuba
  • Constantly learning and caring about the world around us

Faith, Transforming Me, Transforming Community, Transforming the World

This Sunday, 10/25, Rev. Dr. Mark Holland will be preaching from the lectionary with a sermon called "The End of an Era" from Deuteronomy 34:1-12. Human eras come and go, but God’s work continues. It is normal to grieve one era departing and to be uncertain about the future. The good news is that God is at work in us, in the church, in the world. As we witness the changing of an era, help us to keep our eyes on what God is doing next!

Hamilton Building Celebrations

Final Goodwin Chapel Service, 8am

Closing Celebration During Wednesday Night Live! 5:30pm

For years, faithful folks have gathered for prayer, communion, and a teaching from God's words. Leaders have changed, those who have attended have changed...yet the Goodwin Chapel in the Hamilton Building has been a constant.

At 8am, the final chapel service will be held in Goodwin Chapel. We will sing, pray, remember, and hear God's word. All are invited as we remember the space where many weddings have happened, so many lives have been celebrated, and hundreds of worship services have been held.

At 5:30pm, We will gather for a meal together in the LEC. Then, at 6pm, we will walk over to the Goodwin Chapel for worship and remembrances. We will celebrate the 101-year history of the Hamilton and all the transformation that has taken place inside this amazing building.

Whether you are a regular Chapel attender—have attended the Chapel services in the past—or just want to come and say goodbye to this holy space—come on Wednesday November 4th at 8am and/or 5:30pm to celebrate Goodwin Chapel and the Hamilton Building.

Wednesday Bible Study Group

DARING FOLKS IN THE BIBLE

6 week study - 9am on Wednesdays through November

The Bible is full of people who step out in faith and make surprising, daring, and unusual moves. And each of them teaches us something about ourselves, and our spiritual walk with God.

This study will follow the 8am Chapel Service, so come and "try out" chapel and stay for the study...or come and join the study. Each week's study is independent of the others, so come as you are able. There is no preparation for any class - though bring a Bible as you are able.

We will begin the study in the Gathering Room (next to the Chapel).

Questions? Contact Rev. Lynn Dyke (revladyke@gmail.com)

What’s Happening at PCC

So many fun things happening at the Pumpkin Patch! We are only open for 1 more week! Come check us out and buy some pumpkins! We had over 600 people on campus this weekend for Trunk or Treat! We also have so many other ministries that aid throughout the week. Chapel was on Wednesday, Wednesday Night Live finished out Pastor Marks series on Exploring Grace with John Wesley, and the food pantry was this Thursday! So many fun things!

Food Pantry Donations

The food pantry provided 154 bags of emergency/supplemental food serving 378 household members during our two distributions in September.

All food donations are still greatly appreciated. Canned fruit are a priority this month. Even a few items can add up allowing us to include more in each bag we distribute.
