Fellow Kansan,

I am back in Washington, DC for a full week of legislative activity and committee work. If you would like more information on what I am working on this week, be sure to follow me on social media.

I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come.

Yours in service,

This Week in Congress

Yesterday morning, I participated in a fertilizer briefing at USDA alongside Secretary Brooke Rollins, Secretary Chris Wright, Administrator Lee Zeldin, House Agriculture Committee Chair GT Thompson, and a few of my colleagues across the Capitol in the Senate to discuss one of the biggest challenges facing producers right now: rising fertilizer costs. Kansas producers rely heavily on fertilizer inputs to feed America, and when prices spike, it directly impacts farm margins and planting decisions across the Big First. I appreciate the strong coordination between USDA, the Trump administration, Congress, and agriculture stakeholders as we work together on real solutions that increase domestic fertilizer production, strengthen supply chains, and give producers meaningful relief.

Later today, the House will vote on the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, legislation aimed at addressing America’s housing affordability challenges and expanding access to homeownership. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Real Estate Caucus, I worked with colleagues to make important changes to the bill by reforming problematic provisions that would have lowered our housing supply and ensuring that no future government could issue Central Bank Digital Currencies that infringe on Americans' privacy. The updated House version takes a better approach, and I look forward to passing it.

The biggest committee priority this week is the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee markup of the new Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill, the BUILD America 250 Act. This legislation makes historic investments in roads, bridges, rail, and freight infrastructure while cutting red tape and giving states greater flexibility to address their own transportation needs. For Kansas, strong infrastructure is essential to moving agricultural products, energy resources, and goods safely and efficiently across the country. The bill includes the largest investment in America’s bridges in our nation’s history and establishes the first new revenue stream for the Highway Trust Fund in more than 30 years.

Giving Americans More Choices at the Pump

Last week, the House passed the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, a major win for Kansas agriculture, American energy, and consumers. This commonsense legislation allows E15 fuel to be sold year-round nationwide by removing outdated federal restrictions that limit access during the summer months.

Kansas farmers help feed, fuel, and clothe the world, and expanding year-round E15 strengthens markets for our producers while giving families more choices at the pump. As a member of the Rural Domestic Energy Council, I’ve worked directly with producers, refiners, and energy stakeholders on this issue because increasing access to American-grown biofuels supports rural jobs, strengthens domestic energy production, and reduces unnecessary regulatory burdens.

Celebrating National Beef Month

As a fifth-generation Kansan raised on my family’s farm and preconditioning feedlot in Quinter, I understand the pride our farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers take in feeding the world. The Big First is proud to be the nation's number one beef-producing Congressional district, providing millions of American families with nutritious, delicious protein options.

Happy National Beef Month to the hardworking and resilient people who keep our families fed and our rural communities strong!

Emphasizing the Role of Faith

Last week, I spoke on the House Floor as our nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of American independence. For nearly two and a half centuries, America has stood apart because our founding was rooted in the simple truth that our rights come from God, not government. That belief has carried our country through war, hardship, and division, and it continues to guide us today.

As a western Kansas farm kid, I was raised on the values of faith, family, hard work, and personal responsibility— and those values still shape how I serve in Congress. As we approach America’s 250th birthday, we should not only celebrate our history but also reflect on the values that have sustained our nation from the beginning and recommit ourselves to preserving them for the next generation.
