Fellow Kansan,

I am traveling across the Big First this week meeting with Kansans and hearing about the issues that are top of mind for you. If you would like more information on what I am working on this week, be sure to follow me on social media.

I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come.

Yours in service,

Passing a Fiscally Conservative, Five-Year Farm Bill

Last week, the House passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, a major win for American agriculture and rural communities. This Farm Bill is the product of years of bipartisan work, hearings, and listening sessions with producers across the country, including many throughout the Big First.

I have been on the floor of Congress more than 40 times advocating for a Farm Bill that puts our farmers and ranchers first, and I am proud of doing exactly that in this legislation. Our 2026 Farm Bill strengthens key farm programs, expands market access, improves access to credit, and invests in rural infrastructure like broadband, health care, and water systems. I was especially proud to help secure the permanent transfer of the Kansas-born Food for Peace program to USDA, its rightful home, ensuring American-grown commodities remain at the center of feeding the world. This is a commonsense Farm Bill that supports the farmers and ranchers who feed, fuel, and clothe our country while helping keep American agriculture the greatest in the world.

Meeting with Congressional App Challenge Winner

I had the opportunity to meet with Daniel Dao from Lawrence, the winner of this year’s Congressional App Challenge for the Big First. Daniel stopped by my office to demo his app, BrainQuest, which helps users of all ages sharpen their critical thinking skills through engaging challenges in math, logic, and trivia.

It was great to see his creativity and hard work firsthand. Audrey and I loved to see his passion and future plans to improve the app and broaden the scope to increase the use cases. Congratulations to Daniel on his hard work and recognition!

Congratulating Salina Pregnancy Service Center on 25 Years

I recognized the 25th anniversary of the Salina Pregnancy Service Center in my hometown. For 25 years, they have served women, families, and unborn children with compassion and care, providing life-affirming medical services, education, and counseling. Their work makes a real difference for Kansas families every day. I’m grateful for their continued service and congratulate them on this important milestone.

Passing Affordable Health Care Legislation

Congressional Republicans are working hard to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care, no matter their zip code. In late March, the House passed the Improving Care in Rural America Reauthorization Act to expand telehealth and strengthen access to essential services in rural communities like those across western Kansas.

I also cosponsored Rep. Jack Bergman’s Safety Net Provider Drug Pricing Protection Act, which strengthens the 340B program while supporting critical access hospitals and safety net providers that are a lifeline for some of our most vulnerable communities. Rural Kansas depends on strong, reliable health care, and I will continue working to support the providers who deliver it.

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Last week, we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week and the important role apprenticeships play in strengthening our workforce and expanding opportunity. In the Big First, we know success is built on hard work, practical experience, and a willingness to learn. Apprenticeships reflect those values by giving Kansans the chance to earn a paycheck while gaining real-world skills and building a path to long-term success.

Programs like the Rural Kansas Apprenticeship Program are making a real difference by connecting workers with meaningful careers and helping businesses meet their workforce needs. From agriculture and cybersecurity to advanced manufacturing and healthcare, apprenticeships are creating opportunities for the next generation and supporting our local economy.
