Passing of James Walbert
It is with great sadness that I report on the passing of Occoquan resident and former Town Council member, Dr. James Walbert. I had the honor of serving a number of terms on the Town Council with Jim, on one of which he served as Vice Mayor. During his career Dr. Walbert authored/co-authored more than 60 publications, including the AIAA-published text, "Fundamentals of Ground Combat System Ballistic Vulnerability/Lethality," which was named ARL's Publication of the Year for 2009. In 2011 he was awarded the National Defense Industrial Association's Walter W. Hollis Award for lifetime achievement in Defense Testing and Evaluation, and in 2014 he received the Stein Award for Lifetime Achievement and Contributions in Live Fire Test and Evaluation by the National Defense Industrial Association. Holding a BS, MS and PhD in mathematics from the University of Delaware, Dr. Walbert taught mathematics and engineering at the University of Delaware, Penn State University, and Marymount University.

There will be a funeral service for Dr. Walbert on Saturday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3637 Graham Park Road, Triangle, Virginia. A reception will follow and internment will be in a family plot in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
