A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL MARSICH
October 21, 2020

Dear Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Parents,

I am excited to invite your children to the Passion Project program, which is our gifted and talented experience for students.  All current third, fourth, and fifth grade students are invited to take part in Dorchester's Passion Project program, which will give students the opportunity to extend their learning beyond their classrooms. The Passion Project is an updated version of our former gifted and talented program called PAL (Program for Advanced Learning).

The Passion Project will take place virtually once a week after school at 2:45-3:45 for twelve sessions beginning in November and will be facilitated by one of our Dorchester teachers. Third grade will meet on Tuesdays or Thursdays, fourth grade will meet on Tuesdays, and fifth grade will meet on Wednesdays. Student participants will sign up for a course at their grade level, work with the teacher-facilitator to choose topics about which they are passionate, and then take learning into their own hands to pursue those topics, similar to a "Genius Hour" project. Students who take part in this program can be asked to join by the school or be self-nominated, must be dedicated to attending each weekly session, and should be self-motivated, creative, and out-of-the-box thinkers who would like to challenge themselves. Students who are not meeting these expectations may be encouraged to leave the program over the course of the sessions. The Passion Project will culminate with a virtual showcase for students to share their learning with friends and family.

If your child is interested in registering for the program, please visit our website for the Passion Project Registration Forms. The forms will be posted on this webpage beginning on Monday, October 26, at 7:00 p.m. Each form will be closed at the end of the day on Friday, October 30, or once we reach our maximum number of participants for that group.

Once registration has concluded, the teacher facilitators will reach out to the participants with Zoom access information for the sessions. I look forward to seeing all of the passions that your children pursue!

Sincerely,

Stefanie Marsich
