Mary and Martha with Jesus
In the gospel for this coming Sunday, Jesus is eating a meal at Martha’s home. You can think of our church as Martha’s home: come to worship, to join Mary in hearing the word and sharing a meal with sisters.
Genesis 18:1-10a
The hospitality of Abraham and Sarah to three visitors of the Lord
Psalm 15
Lord, who may abide upon your holy hill? (Ps. 15:1)
Colossians 1:15-28
Hymn to Christ, the firstborn of all creation
Luke 10:38-42
Jesus says: Martha, your sister Mary has chosen the better part
Perhaps the church, at its best, is “all ears.” God urges the faithful, again and again, to “listen up!”—to heed the word that gives life. So it was with Abraham and Sarah, Mary and Martha, and the early church at Colossae. So it is today as we join the assembly to hear the word of God, the word of life.

Sunday, July 17, 9:30 a.m.
Join us for worship on July 17 at 9:30 a.m., when St. Paul's pastor from 1988 - 1998, during the construction of the current building, will be here to preside and preach! The Rev. Paul Lutz is looking forward to seeing longtime members and meeting new disciples during this season of transition in our life as a faith community, and his life as a retiring pastor.
Pastor Lutz is retiring from active parish ministry. His most recent parish was Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brookfield, CT
from which he retired on June 30.
Congratulations can be sent to:

Pastor Lutz accepted our call and began his ministry among us on Reformation Sunday, October 30, 1988.
We began enjoying and rejoicing in an influx of new members. We outgrew the sanctuary which is now the Fellowship Hall due to our membership doubling.
Some of you can remember 56 Great Hammock looking like this!
Groundbreaking for our new church was held in June, 1994. December 24, 1994, we held our first service in our new sanctuary.

Pastor Lutz engaging in one of his favorite activities in 1996!
After a ministry of 9 years and 8 months we bid a fond farewell to Pastor Lutz and his family. June 30, 1998 was a sad day when he preached his last sermon

SUNDAY HYMN of the DAY
"What A Friend We Have In Jesus"
One of the most helpful hymns in popular use is Joseph Scriven’s hymn on the friendship of Jesus, the comforter and burden-bearer. Scriven was a native of Dublin, Ireland, born in 1820.
When a young man, he was engaged to be married to a lady whom he had known and loved for a long time. All preparations had been made for the wedding ceremony and the date had been fixed. But shortly before the wedding day arrived his promised bride was accidentally drowned, and he was plunged into the deepest sorrow.
From this sad experience came a deep sense of his dependence upon Christ and of the great truth so helpfully expressed in his lyrics.
"What a Friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear—
All because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer."

We are always striving to improve our communication here at St. Paul. We look to our members to sometimes be our eyes and ears. If you hear of someone that is hospitalized or homebound due to illness, or is in need of prayer - please let the church office know HERE.
