“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.
For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.”
As we step into the New Year, I believe God is calling us to some new things. This passage of Scripture was spoken over our church in a prophetic word last year and I am taking time to reveal what I believe it means for us as a church in 2019.
There are three things here that God calls Israel to:
Stretch your tent curtains wide
Lengthen your cords
Strengthen your stakes
Enlarging a tent or this in matter of the tabernacle was no small matter. Exodus tells us that the Tabernacle curtains were large pieces of leather sown together by large rings and stretched over a wooden frame. This was held in place by cords wound together and tied down by large wooden stakes.
To enlarge the area of the tent would mean that they would have to sew new pieces of material to the curtain and lengthen the cords and move the stakes. As we step into the New Year, I believe God is calling us to ready ourselves for growth. I am reminded of the widow and her son told of in 2 Kings 4. They had invited the prophet Elijah into their home in a time of great famine and used the remainder of their meal and oil to make him a cake. The miracle of God’s provision was revealed as they began pouring into the vessels gathered which were limited only to the number of jars brought.
I believe God wants to pour out His increase in our lives individually and corporately as we prepare for what He is bringing. This Sunday we are going to look at what this means for us and how God is specifically calling us to enlarge our Territory. This is our theme for this year and I am encouraged as we move into a new chapter as a faith community.
The Lord bless you and keep you as you continue to keep Him first in your life. God bless! And Happy New Year!
