Pastor's e-Note
July 28, 2020
Dear Church Family,
May the coolness of Christ be with you! Hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer season with your loved ones.
I am very happy to share a Good News with you today. As you know, BUMC welcomes all God’s children and wants to be an inclusive and reconciling congregation. We took a straw poll survey last week and the result was very positive: 84 responses, with 96% of the total responses in favor of joining the Reconciling Ministry Network. Now all church members are invited to attend a Special Church Conference via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 10. At this time, we will take a final vote to join the Reconciling Ministry Network . Our District Superintendent, Rev. Sang Won Doh will preside over this conference.
I am deeply grateful to all of you for your faithful service and generous support of our congregation and its ministries that transform lives and communities. Please remember that I pray for each of you every day for your good health and well-being. May God richly bless you and keep you now and always.

Peace and Love,

Rev. Jennifer

Worship Update
Letter from the BUMC Reopening Committee for possible Outdoor Worship Service & Volunteer Needs
In response to congregational requests, the Reopening Committee would like to consider starting an outdoor Sunday worship to be held in shaded area of the parking lot  at 9 am from August 16 through October 18. Rest assured, the prerecorded Sunday services will continue to be offered online for those who prefer to remain home; the same sermon offered online will be presented at the outdoor service.  We need your help to make this happen . Please see the details below.

  • Masks will be required for all adults and encouraged for children.
  • The church building will NOT be open for any reason (including bathrooms), no exceptions.
  • Designated seating areas will be marked to ensure proper social distancing; attendees must bring their own chairs.
  • Worship leaders will use a microphone system, bulletins will be accessed electronically through phones/tablets, and singing will not be encouraged.
  • Services will last approximately 30-40 minutes and participants will be asked to depart within 10 minutes following the service.
  • Cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on the church website and Facebook page by 8 am.
  • Holy Communion will only be available through the online service on the 1st Sunday of the month or weekly at the Wednesday ZOOM devotional services.

A minimum of 5 volunteers will be required each Sunday. We must have a firm commitment from volunteers in order to move forward with this plan.  Volunteers will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to the service and remain approximately 10 minutes after for the following tasks (instructions will be provided):
  • Set up of electronic equipment/microphones and extra batteries
  • Mark designated seating areas with chalk
  • Direct the flow of traffic
  • Assist pastors with offering baskets and other worship preparation
  • Break down electronic equipment and return to storage

Please click here to sign up to help. We are asking that you share your intent to volunteer by August 4th so that the Reopening Committee may evaluate the responses in early August to determine if this outdoor service is a viable possibility.

Our goal is to joyfully worship God as a community of faith while maintaining the highest safety protocols for your protection. We give thanks for your continued support of BUMC and its ministries throughout this challenging time.
Yours faithfully,
BUMC Reopening Committee & Pastors

2020 Harry Denman Evangelism Award

Friends, I would like to share with you the message that I received from our District Superintendent, Rev. Sang Won Doh.  - Rev. Jennifer

“It is with excitement that I write to present you with the 2020 Harry Denman Evangelism Award for the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. This award program honors United Methodists in each annual conference for their exceptional ministry of evangelism, bringing people to a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. The Harry Denman Evangelism Award is funded by a grant from the Foundation for Evangelism whose vision is to be a catalyst to equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ...

Recipients of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award are noted for their commitment to introducing others to the Good News of Jesus Christ consistently across all ministry setting. Through encounters and relationships with recipients of this award, many new people are brought to Christ or have their faith journey reignited. By serving as Christ served and sharing “Why Jesus?” in all aspects of your life, you are an inspiration to many. Congratulations again and thank you for your ministry in GNJ and on the Raritan Valley District.”  (Rev. Sang Won Doh, Raritan Valley District Superintendent)
