As you read this, I am with 27 youth and adults on mission in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee working to make homes warmer, safer, and drier for families in need. We ask that you keep us in prayer until our return to Gainesville on Saturday.
I imagine that many of you may have already heard but I wanted to share with you the good news that I recently received official notification from the U. S. Navy of my selection for appointment to Active Duty as a Chaplain. My service will begin when I report to Officer Development School in Newport, RI, on September 16th. Then, beginning in October I will attend Naval Chaplaincy School in Fort Jackson, SC. I have not yet received orders to my ultimate duty station but hope to hear something very soon. Please pray for my family and me as we navigate this season of transition, exciting as it is!
Of course, this news means that after more than five years together, I have only six more Sundays to enjoy the privilege of serving as one of your pastors. This Sunday, I look forward to wrapping up our summer message series,
Together: For the Sake of the World,
with a sermon titled "Standard Issue" from Ephesians 6:10-20. I hope to see you in worship!
Grace and peace,
PS - My commissioning ceremony/last sermon/farewell celebration is being planned for Wednesday, September 12th. We will first enjoy a Wednesday night supper and then worship together at a special 6:35 service in the Worship Center. So, mark your calendars...I have a feeling it's going to be really special.
