RCI presents Chuck Phelan of Barry Callebaut with Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award of 2025

Chuck Phelan of Barry Callebaut U.S.A. received the 2025 Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award during RCI’s Annual Convention & Industry Expo at Covington, KY, last month.

Each year, the RCI Board of Directors selects a member of the confectionery industry who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, loyalty, friendship and meaningful contributions to the industry. This year, the Henry J. Bornhofft Memorial Award went to Chuck Phelan, “A name well known and respected by confectioners across the country," according to RCI. An active member of RCI, Phelan has served on the Board of Directors and participated on several committees. "But beyond his service," adds RCI, "it’s the way he approaches his work that sets him apart.”

PMCA elects new directors to board

During PMCA’s Annual Meeting of Members at the 78^th Annual Production Conference in Lancaster, PA members ratified the slate of directors for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025.

The following individuals were ratified as new members of the PMCA Board of Directors. Their first terms began July 1, 2025 at the start of the PMCA fiscal year 2025/2026. Welcome Judy Cooley, Global Confection Connections, LLC; Jenna Derhammer, Blommer Chocolate Company, and Eric Schmoyer, IRCA Group Americas.

Local chocolatier, Derek Barr, owner of Chocolate Barr’s Candies is honoring his friend and mentor, Rheo Thompson, founder of Rheo Thompson’s Candies of Stratford, ON, Canada, with a new creation, “The Champ” bar. The new confection, based on a formula developed by Rheo, will honor a local charity.
