The elusive Ghost Orchid may be added to the Endangered Species List

The ghost orchid is a rare plant only found in South Florida and Cuba, with only about 1,500 left in the state of Florida. Ghost orchids are struggling to survive due to habitat loss and poaching.

There is hope however, as earlier this month the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced its consideration of granting Endangered Species Act protection to the ghost orchid. This change in status would help protect the species and its habitat which includes critical parts of the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
