Fall 2025

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month: Honoring Compassion and Comfort

Each November, we take time to recognize National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, a special opportunity to celebrate the compassionate care that helps patients and families live life as fully as possible, even when facing serious illness. Across the country, hospice and palliative care programs bring comfort, dignity, and peace to millions of people each year.

For families, hospice and palliative care mean more than just medical services. They offer guidance, understanding, and a helping hand during one of life’s most challenging times.

Nurses, social workers, chaplains, volunteers, and other dedicated team members work together to ensure that patients and their loved ones never feel alone.

We at Pathways encourage you to learn more about these vital services. Now is the perfect time to explore how these programs bring comfort and hope to so many.

InTouch

From The President

Dear Friends,

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Announced in 1978 by then President Jimmy Carter, the month was established to recognize the efforts of those who provide end-of-life care, and to help raise awareness of the growing hospice movement.

When the observance was first established, the number of hospice patients in the United States numbered in the thousands. Today hospice programs in the United States provide care to more than 1.65 million people annually.

During National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, we join with other hospice organizations across the country to celebrate the incredible care our team provides to families and to work toward a better understanding of the care options available to everyone in our community including those who are living with illness and loss or caring for someone who is in need.

Hospice is unique in that it offers an interdisciplinary team approach to treatment that includes expert medical care, comprehensive pain management and emotional and spiritual care, music therapy and volunteer services. Caring for the whole person during end-of-life allows the team to address each patient’s unique needs and challenges. In addition to caring for patients, hospice offers services for families and loved ones that provide emotional support and advice to help family members become confident caregivers and adjust to the future with grief support for up to a year.

While traditional hospice is always available for those nearing the end of life and where cure is no longer an option, many patients choose supportive care (often called palliative care). More than 340 patients receive this unique medical specialty from our care team with a focus on improving quality of life and relieving pain and symptoms. It can be provided at any time during an illness and simultaneously alongside curative treatment.

The best time to make plans for the kind of care you or a loved one would want is before you are faced with a medical crisis. One of the most frequent comments we hear from families is, “Why did we wait so long before calling hospice?”

We are grateful to have been your local, non-profit, community-based hospice for the past 47 years. Caring for your loved ones, your families, your friends, and your neighbors in the Greeley, Fort Collins and Loveland areas continues to be our greatest honor.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and please reach out to us to help in your time of need.

With gratitude,

A Vintage Affair To Remember!

September 21, 2025 was an incredible evening at Pathways' A Vintage Affair fundraiser, held at Front Range Community College and presented by Wilbur’s Total Beverage! Featuring 200+ varieties of wine, beer, and whiskey from around the world, gourmet appetizers, a silent auction and more, thanks to the generosity of our amazing community, we raised more than $41,000 to support two vital Pathways programs:

  • The Dream Quilters, who create and donate 35–40 beautiful, handcrafted quilts each month for patients at Pathways Inpatient Care Center.

  • The Pathways Family Assistance Fund, which provides grants for hospice families facing urgent non-medical expenses such as food, travel, mortgage or rent, and more.

We are beyond grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and helped make this night such a success.

A huge thank-you to our generous sponsors for making this special evening possible!

Honoring Those Who Served

Recognizing Veterans on Veterans Day and Beyond

Each year on November 11, our nation comes together to celebrate Veterans Day—a time to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. At Pathways, this day holds special meaning. We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices veterans have made and are proud to provide compassionate, specialized care through our participation in the We Honor Veterans program.

Pathways is a proud member of the National Alliance for Care at Home, which partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs to support this important initiative, and we are even more proud to have achieved Level Four Status within the program.

Each veteran’s journey is different, and our team takes time to learn about every individual’s branch and era of service. This helps us provide care that is both personal and respectful, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges veterans may face at the end of life.

A meaningful part of our care includes recognition ceremonies. When a new veteran joins our service, our volunteers honor them by presenting certificates, pins, and hats as a small token of gratitude for their service to our country. These heartfelt moments often lead to shared stories and connections that remind us all of the power of appreciation.

This Veterans Day—and every day—Pathways proudly salutes those who have served. We remain committed to honoring our veterans with the dignity, compassion, and respect they deserve.
