From The President

Dear Friends,

I’m so happy to share how Pathways continues to grow and serve our community with compassion and care.

Every day, we feel the deep support of people like you—our friends, neighbors, and partners—who help us carry out our mission. Together, we’re finding new ways to support patients and families when they need it most. Today, I’d like to tell you about two programs that are especially close to our hearts.

The first is our Dream Quilters—a devoted group of nearly 60 volunteers who lovingly sew quilts for every patient at our Inpatient Care Center. Led by Lauri Dykstra and Nancy Cole, this group creates 30 to 40 beautiful quilts each month, each one a unique expression of care and comfort. When a patient passes, their quilt is given to their family as a keepsake—a warm and lasting memory of their loved one. Each quilt represents a $250 donation to Pathways, and the love behind them is truly priceless. You can see this inspiring story in action in our short video on YouTube.

The second is our Family Assistance Fund, which offers financial support to hospice families facing urgent, non-medical needs—like help with groceries, rent, or transportation. For many families, these final months come with difficult decisions and unexpected expenses. This fund helps lighten those burdens so families can focus on what truly matters: spending meaningful time together.

We’ll be shining a light on both of these programs at our annual fundraising event, A Vintage Affair, happening Sunday, September 21st. All proceeds from the evening will support the Dream Quilters and Family Assistance Fund.

It will be a joyful night filled with wine, whiskey, craft beer, delicious bites, entertainment, and good company—all in support of programs that bring comfort, dignity, and care to those we serve.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of our Pathways family. We couldn’t do this without you.

Warmly,

Pillowcase Project

Helping Children Heal Through Art and Memory

Grief can be especially confusing and overwhelming for children. At Pathways, we recognize the unique ways that children process loss, and we’re committed to providing them with safe, creative outlets to express their feelings.

Our Grief & Loss team understands this deeply. That’s why we offer thoughtful, creative support like The Pillowcase Project - a hands-on activity that supports healing through expression, storytelling, and comfort.

Children are invited to decorate pillowcases. They often draw pictures, write messages to their loved one, or illustrate cherished memories. For some, the pillow becomes a symbol of connection; for others, it becomes a safe place to rest their head at night - a reminder that they are not alone.

The simple act of creating something personal gives children a voice when words are hard to find. Art allows them to explore emotions like sadness, anger, confusion, and love, and to begin making sense of their experience.

Together, we can help find comfort, expression, and hope—one pillowcase at a time - an example of the compassion and care that defines the mission of Pathways.

A Day Of Remembrance

Annual Memorial Service & Butterfly Release

In July, Pathways hosted its Annual Memorial Service & Butterfly Release — a beautiful day of remembrance for those we’ve lost.

The service featured heartfelt music, words from our hospice team, and the symbolic release of butterflies in honor of loved ones.

Following the ceremony, guests gathered for a reception, sharing memories and support in community.

Thank you to all who joined us in this meaningful tribute.
