The 2nd Annual Reentry United Conference was a huge Success! Nearly 250 individuals from across the State of Michigan attended, bringing together all sectors of Reentry. Once again, Michigan Department of Corrections Director Heidi Washington was a keynote speaker, sharing her vision of the great things to come with MDOC Reentry.

Members of the MDOC Parole Board also participated in a panel-Innovation in Reentry and hosted a breakout session to share the role of the Parole Board.

We were thankful to have State Representative Amos O'Neal with 94th House District join us. He is doing great work for the people of Michigan, especially in Reentry.

Joe Jones faced adversity early in life when he went to prison at the age of 21, serving a 20-year sentence. However, upon his release, he was determined to carve out a brighter future for himself. Joe decided to invest in his skills and enroll in the Offender Success (OS) truck driving program.

During the enrollment process, a routine MDOT physical revealed a heart murmur that required immediate attention. Joe underwent surgery to replace a heart valve and fix an aneurism, overcoming this unexpected obstacle. Undeterred by this setback, he persevered through his health troubles and successfully completed the OS Truck Driving Program.
