We are thrilled to announce Reentry United has scheduled its fourth annual event for Aug. 15, 2025! This year, we are focusing on the vital theme of "Preparing for Reentry" and are now seeking dynamic and impactful presenters to contribute to this important conversation.

We invite professionals, advocates and individuals with lived experience to submit presentation proposals that align with our theme. We want to hear from you! This is an incredible opportunity to share your expertise and innovative ideas to a diverse audience, collaborate with professionals and advocates from across the state, and contribute to the shaping of the future of reentry practices and solutions in Michigan.

Key Dates:

• Proposal Release: Jan. 6, 2025
• Proposal Submissions Due: February 21, 2025
• Final Presentations Due: June 18, 2025

Celebrating the Success of our 2024 Resource Fairs

This year has been an incredible success for our resource fairs. We have successfully organized and participated in several resource fairs across the region, where we had the opportunity to connect with individuals, provide support and foster meaningful partnerships. Across multiple counties, Region 4 OS Reentry staff worked tirelessly to engage with participants, connecting them with vital community services to aid in their successful reentry.

One major highlight was our collaboration with the Secretary of State's office, which hosted the Road to Restoration program at several fairs. This initiative played a pivotal role in assisting justice-involved individuals in reinstating their driver's licenses. Having valid identification is a critical factor in gaining employment, securing housing and achieving independence. The Road to Restoration program helps break down barriers, giving individuals a renewed sense of hope and direction.

All of the resource fairs saw outstanding participation and engagement. Attendees walked away with the tools and knowledge needed to move forward on their journeys. Many shared inspiring stories of resilience and growth, demonstrating the impact of these events.

We look forward to continuing this momentum in 2025, expanding our outreach and building stronger partnerships to ensure success for all justice-involved individuals. Probation Program Update

Pilot Probation Program:

Transforming Lives Since March 2024

Since its launch in March 2024, Region 4 OS Reentry Services' Probation Pilot Program has made a remarkable impact on individuals in our region. This Initiative, designed to provide support to probationers, has not only transformed lives but also strengthened our shared commitment to promoting successful reintegration and reducing recidivism.

In its first nine months, the program has assisted 618 individuals currently on probation, and has delivered an impressive 2,061 services, spanning various critical areas of need.

The range of services offered through the program underscores its wholistic approach to addressing the needs of probationers. Some key highlights include:

• Access to health and behavioral health services, empowering individuals to focus on their goals.
• Support services include help obtaining vital documents, food boxes, hygiene kits, help with transportation and emergency housing. This support has offered participants a stable foundation from which they can rebuild their lives.
• Employment assistance is a cornerstone of participants success. Many participants have found meaningful employment and some have achieved life-changing milestones, such as obtaining their commercial driver's license, opening the door to stable, long-term careers.

The Probation Pilot Program is not just about numbers - it's about people, their stories and their journeys toward a better future. Together, we are proving that with the right support, success is within everyone's reach.

Douglas Loughin's Journey to Reentry

Douglas Loughin's story is one of resilience, transformation and the power of second chances. Like many others, he faced the heavy burden of substance abuse and the cycles of incarceration that often accompany it. His life was marked by trauma and legal struggles, making the path forward seem insurmountable. But through determination and the willingness to change, Doug made the decision that would alter the course of his future.

While still incarcerated, Doug took a pivotal step by enrolling in the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program at Vocational Village. This opportunity not only equipped him with a valuable skill but also gave him a renewed sense of purpose. The program, renowned for its success in helping incarcerated individuals secure employment, became the foundation for Doug's transformation and hope for a brighter future.

Douglas Loughin stands proudly in front of his work truck, proving that determination and second chances can drive a brighter future. He has successfully completed the truck driver training program at Vocational Village to earn his CDL.

After his release, Doug faced the familiar challenges of reentering society. Fortunately, a referral to the Region 4 OS Reentry Services program provided him with the support and resources he needed to navigate his new life.

Reflecting on his journey, Doug identified one of his greatest barriers as himself. Region 4 Resource Navigator Melissa Clark played a key role in helping Doug overcome his challenges.

"After being incarcerated for so long, I struggled with patience, especially with wait periods and processes," Doug said. "Melissa was always there to answer my questions, and I never doubted her guidance."

Today, Doug has turned his life around. He is employed full time as a commercial truck driver and is nearing the end of his supervision. His success is a testament to the life-changing impact of education, support programs and the courage to embrace change.

His story inspires us all and underscores the mission of OS Reentry Services: "To provide individuals with the tools and opportunities needed to rebuild their lives and reduce recidivism."
