Positively Speaking: Patricia's Perspective

Taking Stock of the Miracles in Our Lives
I want to share a miracle story which happened a couple of weeks ago. I was driving on the highway early in the morning and I was in the right lane of a three lane highway. There was a truck in front of me and all of a sudden a large ladder fell off the truck on the road directly in front of my car.

Luckily, I was driving in the right hand lane next to the breakdown lane. My first instinct was to veer to the right because the ladder was so large if I went straight ahead my car would definitely hit it. As I veered to the right I snagged this ladder and it got wedged underneath my car. I was next to the breakdown lane so I pulled over.

I immediately called 911. Within probably less than a minute, a state trooper arrived and help me to move my car a little bit more off of the curb as the traffic was speedily going by. He asked me to move my car couple inches forward and back to try to release the ladder which was stuck underneath and was not successful. He suggested that maybe we get the car towed.

In the meantime a second state trooper came by and asked me to move the car backwards and roll over the ladder. Even though I was hesitant I followed his instruction and the ladder was immediate released when I rolled over it. When I thanked the state trooper and told him I was lucky, he replied, “Yes, very lucky. This could have been much worse.”

I then brought my car to my mechanic who put it up on the lift to see if there was any damage. He found a couple of small nicks in the casing but there was no damage under the car, to the tires or to the engine!! This was miraculous. The mechanic said to me “Your God is really smiling on you today.” He said that ladder could have hit my windshield. I also realized that I was in a lane where I could pull right over to the breakdown lane. What if I was in the first or middle lane with a car next to me and nowhere to move?

For me this is a sign that I'm being protected and I am so very grateful. This has “carried me forward” and allowed me to keep “climbing the rungs of my own ladder.”
