Sid Stockdale:

Lessons Learned From War

Sid Stockdale ’73 is the son of Admiral James Bond Stockdale, a Medal of Honor recipient and one of the most highly respected military leaders in U.S. history. In 1965, when Sid was just eleven years old, his father’s Navy fighter jet was shot down over North Vietnam. Admiral Stockdale spent the next seven years as a prisoner of war in the notorious “Hanoi Hilton,” enduring brutal conditions while his family waited and hoped for his return.

His book, A World Apart: Growing Up Stockdale During Vietnam, offers a rare and intimate look at the emotional toll of war on the families left behind, and the strength it takes to endure years of uncertainty and silence.
