Positively Speaking
Spring Cleaning for the Soul

Technically, spring is here, but nature has it’s own timetable. We can still get ready as it warms up and we feel true spring coming. Spring cleaning represents new growth. As part of this growth, we are cleaning out the old and getting ready for the new.

When you think of spring cleaning, what do you want to clean out and what do you want to bring in? Here are some thoughts. When you clean and air out your home, you invite the “new air” in. This is a time to look at what you have with fresh eyes. Think about rearranging the furniture, using what you have in a different way or painting the walls a new color. Pick up a new book, browse the paper for spring events to attend, and be sure to step outside and see how the trees, beach, flowers, and shrubs have changed. Clean out the cupboards of your house and your mind. Get rid of items you no longer want and need and get rid of the thoughts you no longer want.

Sarah Ban Breathnach, bestselling author of Simple Abundance and guest on my program, produced a beautiful CD of songs and music titled Simple Abundance ( www.simpleabundance.com.) which I encourage you to get. The lyrics in the song “Simplify” are alive in my head as I write this column. They are “I opened up the door today and looked inside my soul •Not sure of the things I’d find •So many boxes stored away •For some brave and rainy day •Full of lost and left behinds…(Chorus) Simplify this house / Straighten out this mess / Open up the windows / Air out my life / Simplify this house / Wash away my pride / Rearrange my heart / And let the light inside.”

Before you start to do spring cleaning, do an inventory. Picture how you will feel when you have new fresh positive thoughts and attitudes.Concentrate on bringing into your life joy, love, peace-of-mind, safety, comfort, appreciation, abundance, and order. Freedom can be yours when you clean out the old and bring in the new – for good! Happy Spring!
