Positive Aging Tips to Live Longer, Better
I have been creating and producing podcasts on the topics of Positive Aging and have gained so much from this work.
Here are my 5 ways to honor and utilize our strengths in our older adult years:
•Move past the myths:
Active agers are technologically averse and challenged. Reality is that 55+ are among the leading adopters and drives of many tech devices and services.
Myth: Active Agers are no longer productive in the workplace. Reality: There is virtually no relationship between age and performance.*
•Seek creative work platforms such as part time, flex time, remote work, contract work or being an entrepreneur
COVID has expanded venues for workers and older workers. Now there are choices for many. Remote work is no longer a novelty. It has often become the norm .
•Value your education, experience and wisdom and gain more lifelong learning opportunities
We often take for granted what we as active agers bring to the table and. Sometimes hide them “under the table.” Access your skills and talents and talk about these strengths.
•Mind your greatest work life assets– Your health and your time
We have less time chronologically as we get older but we often have greater choice about how we spend our time. Our health is our “bank account” and we need to safeguard it even more in our older adult years with exercise, good nutrition, enough sleep and a great support system.
•Impart your wisdom, traditions and history
We as elders have an important role in our community. We can impart traditions and ideals that have been integral to our family's history and personal identity. We impart tradition, knowledge, culture, values, and lessons.
