The 2018-2019 school year for Kate Duncan Smith DAR School began on August 8th with close to 1,400 excited students descending on the campus. Nervous anticipation soon made way for rules and routines for students in Pre-K through 12th grade.
For the first time in the 94-year history of Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, a graduate is the State Regent of the Alabama Society DAR. Tammy Bradshaw Clemons was installed as State Regent of the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution in June of 2018 during the 127th NSDAR Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. Her three-year term as leader of 69 Alabama DAR chapters with 4,357 members will last until June of 2021.
According to U.S. News & World Report, KDS DAR High School is ranked 37th in the state of Alabama. KDS High School was ranked 37th out of 255 high schools in Alabama and 2,619th in the nation. The school was ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college. "Not everyone is going to college after they graduate and it is our job to prepare these students for life after high school. We offer Advance Placement courses, dual enrollment, career ready programs, and set goals for the students," said Principal Stacy Anderton.
