HP PTSA Updates

At the Executive Board meeting on March 10th, our TUPE and Leadership student teams presented to the Harvest Park PTSA Board on their goals, efforts, and accomplishments. These presentations were very engaging and insightful!

TUPE Team

Student representatives from our Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) team presented their work to the board.

  • Brief overview of the TUPE program at our school
  • Latest information about tobacco and vaping dangers facing youth
  • Student-led prevention activities and peer education efforts
  • Impact of their work on campus tobacco awareness and use
  • Future initiatives and support needed

PTSA Board members had first-hand experience with visual demonstrations and educational materials used in the program, allowing them to witness the impactful teaching methods that students use with their peers.

The presentation highlighted how these student leaders are working to create a healthier, tobacco-free environment for all students through education and peer influence.

Student Leadership Team

Our Student Leadership team enhances school culture and student experiences through several key initiatives:

  • Events & Fundraising: Organizing school dances and fundraisers that bring students together while generating funds for important causes.
  • Environmental Action: Leading a campus-wide recycling program by collecting cans and bottles, promoting environmental responsibility among peers.
  • Community Impact: Donating proceeds from events and recycling efforts to local nonprofits, fostering a spirit of giving back.
  • District Advocacy: Regularly presenting goals and accomplishments to the PUSD Board of Trustees, advocating for student programs and school needs, and ensuring student voices are represented in PUSD district decisions.

These student-led activities not only benefit our school and community but also help team members develop valuable leadership, organizational, and communication skills they'll carry forward into their futures. Our exceptional student leaders continue to make a profound impact both on and off campus, impressing the HP PTSA Board with their maturity, vision, and remarkable accomplishments. Their innovative initiatives demonstrate not only their commitment to creating positive change but also showcase the incredible potential of young people when given the opportunity to lead — Our students aren't just participating in their education, they're actively shaping their school community and inspiring everyone around them.

Our dedicated teacher, Mr. Dankwardt, and counselors, Ms. Simpson and Ms. Le, deserve special recognition for their unwavering commitment to guiding these student programs, often volunteering countless hours beyond their teaching responsibilities to ensure students’ success. These remarkable educators not only facilitate student leadership but truly empower our students to discover their voices and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives. We are profoundly grateful for their expertise, patience, and passion!
