Update on Patron and Director's Circle Membership Levels

Beginning July 1, Patron Membership will increase from $525 to $700 and Director’s Circle Membership will increase from $1,000 to $1,300.

Through midnight June 30th, these levels will remain at their current prices. Renewing early adds a full year of membership to your current expiration date.

Patron Members get ONE free ticket (and one ticket at member price) to every single regular first-run screening and any event that is priced $12 or below for members. Director's Circle Members get TWO free tickets to every single regular first-run screening and any event that is priced $12 or below for members, in addition to free popcorn and soda and other benefits.

Prices for these membership levels have not increased in 20 years. At the same time, both the value and the cost of the benefits we deliver to our Patron and Director’s Circle Members have increased dramatically.

Between May 1, 2022 and May 1. 2023, we presented over 6,000 first-run screenings and over 200 special events that were all available for free to our Patron and Director’s Circle Members – all with free popcorn and soda. The number of special events we offer is only increasing.

What is also increasing is the cost of producing and presenting our screenings and events. We are a very frugal organization. We work as hard as possible to balance our budget by reducing expenses and continuously asking ourselves to do more with less. However, many expenses are beyond our control, and it makes sense at this time to increase the price of these two membership levels.

The benefits at these levels remain intact, and continue to offer great value. Please find an overview of membership benefits HERE.

If you have any questions about Membership or anything else, please feel free to contact Co-Director Dylan Skolnick at (631) 423-7610, ext. 24, dylan@cinemaartscentre.org; or Director of Development René Bouchard at (631) 423-7610, ext. 18, rene@cinemaartscentre.org.

Thank you so much!

Amy Goodman Interview with Julie Cohen, Who Will Appear with Her New Film EVERY BODY Here on July 5th

On Monday June 12th's edition of Democracy Now!, Amy Goodman interviewed director Julie Cohen about her new film EVERY BODY which will begin its run at the Cinema Arts Centre on June 30th. Julie Cohen will appear in person at the Cinema on July 5th.

CLICK HERE to read this interview.

The Academy Award-nominated, Emmy-winning director Julie Cohen has appeared at the Cinema before, with her phenomenal documentary RBG, co-directed by Betsy West. We are thrilled to welcome Julie back in July with her new film EVERY BODY.

EVERY BODY is a groundbreaking documentary that shines a spotlight on the courageous journeys of three intersex activists. Through their stories of resilience and authenticity, actor and screenwriter River Gallo, political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel, and scholar Sean Saifa Wall advocate for intersex rights and strive to end unnecessary medical interventions. This extraordinary documentary inspires audiences to embrace diversity, celebrate individual identities, and foster greater understanding within the intersex community.

HOPE IS AN ACT OF DEFIANCE. DEFY WITH US.

Crossing Party Lines (CPL) wants to hear your story of how you (or someone you know) chose / choose hope in your own life. Maybe you made a friend out of a bully, maybe your dad chose to be accountable when there was an easy way out for him to play the blame-game, maybe your mother spoke up for a neighbor who looked different than everyone else in the community, or maybe your friend reached out to you when things were too fraught between you.

Let's celebrate the unsung choices and acts of hope in everyday life made by ordinary people.

Interested? Email us at VMT@CrossingPartyLines.com with the subject “CHOOSE HOPE” and we will send you recording instructions and/or help you craft your story. .

Look inside you and around you for goodness. Choose Hope. Share Hope. Be Hope.

Our Next Discussion with Crossing Party Lines:

Affordable Housing: What’s preventing it?

TUE, JUN 20 · 7:00 PM EDT

Space is limited. Please RSVP HERE.

One of the hallmarks of “adulting” in America is to move out of one’s parents’ house and have one’s own space. However, too often it can be extremely difficult because of a lack of affordable housing. Many young Americans are having to make a choice between not having their own place and moving far away from their families in order to find something affordable. Most Americans couldn’t afford to purchase their own home based on current prices. Nationally, a single-family home now costs a record 5.3 times more than the median household's income - double what is considered affordable, and the typical rental is almost $2,000 a month.

Those of us living on Long Island can especially relate to this problem. Nassau and Suffolk Counties rank among the TOP 10 LEAST affordable metropolitan areas in the country and the rent-to-income ratio for NY in 2022 was 68.5 percent.

Join our discussion as we explore this issue and questions such as:

  • Have you or someone you know ever had to choose between having a home & being close to your family?
  • What stands in the way of Affordable Housing?
  • What roles do, or should, local or state level zoning codes play in making housing available?
  • Did you agree/disagree with Gov. Hochul’s NY affordable housing Act?
  • Terms like NIMBY (Not In My Backyard), YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard) and PHIMBY (Public Housing In My Backyard) are often used in these discussions - do you relate to them and why?
  • Is the cost of housing driving up homelessness?
  • What is the best way to resolve this problem?

Join our FIFTH in-person discussion at our NEW Long Island chapter and have a voice in our local (and national) conversation! If you are liberal, come & bring a conservative friend. If you are a conservative, bring a liberal friend. If you have no friends across party lines, then you know how entrenched the problem is, come so we can solve it together! Help us rebuild a culture where all views are welcomed, appreciated, and heard.

Please do your best to arrive 5-10 minutes before the meeting so we can get to know each other before we start the discussion.
