The Practice of lighting Advent candles is designed to help us center our lives on Christ's coming during the weeks that lead up to the celebration of his birth. One candle is lit each Sunday during Advent until all the candles are lit. As you light this Sunday's candle read the prayers and scripture reading below.

Today we light the candle of Love

One: Oh, we are almost there! The manger is in sight!
All:  Jesus is coming tomorrow and again one day.
One: We light the candle of hope for a future that is in God’s good hands.
           (light the hope candle again)
All:  We light the candle of peace for the Prince who shows us how to live together.
              (light the peace candle again)
One: We light the candle of joy and remember the joys of our lives ___________.
(light the joy candle again invite each person to share a joy from this week)
All:  Today we light the candle of love (light the fourth candle)
One: Jesus is God’s love come to us in human form
All:  We know how to love because God first loved us.
One: It won’t be long…
All:  Our Advent journey continues but, soon, oh so soon, we will greet Love with the open hearts of shepherds and singing voices of angels.
