Pavement, utility, and pedestrian improvements continue to move forward on the 6th Street SW project. 6th Street remains closed just north of Wilson Avenue for water main installation; Wilson Avenue remains open.

Elsewhere on 6th Street SW, additional pavement repairs are taking place. City crews are taking advantage of the decreased traffic volumes to perform pavement resurfacing between Wilson Avenue and 16th Avenue.

As part of this work, starting on Monday, May 24, 6th Street SW will be closed from 16th Avenue to Wilson Avenue, until approximately Friday, May 28. Improvements will also include transitioning the road from four lanes (two lanes each direction) to three lanes (one lane each direction with a dedicated center turn lane). This will match the final layout of the segment between Wilson Avenue to 33rd Avenue, once it’s completed. This segment will also have three lanes (one lane each direction with center turn lane) with additional lanes to accommodate turning capacity at the Wilson and 6th Street intersection.

Once these closures on 6th Street are lifted, Wilson Avenue will be closed immediately west of 6th Street, for additional water main installation. This closure will be in place for approximately three weeks. We will send additional updates as we have exact timelines in place.
