Say hello to Derby, a sweet dog dog full of love for everyone he meets!
Dog of the Month: Meet Derby!
Hi ! I'm Derby! I'm a young Pit Bull mix who came to the shelter as a surrender. I'm also currently the longest staying dog at BHS.

I love people and would like to find an experienced home who can socialize and spoil me! I've met a few dogs here at the shelter but I prefer to live on my own.

A home without children is the best fit for me and cats are not ideal, but with proper training and introductions I may be able to live with one. I can't wait to meet you!

Volunteer Spotlight: Kathy
Kathy started volunteering with us after she semi-retired. She wanted to volunteer where she knew she would be needed. Kathy is loved by both our dogs and staff. Since our move, Kathy is a consistent face we see, and is always out walking and socializing with our dogs.

Sweet Success Story: Mya (aka Flower)
Meet Mya (originally named Flower) who has found her forever home!

I love her so much already. I did change her name to Mya. Her personality has changed some. Of course, she is more comfortable with us now and it shows in her confidence. My daughter had a 10 year old pit mix, Pancakes. Mya and Pancakes were friends for a very short time. Two weeks after getting Mya, Pancakes died from bone cancer. A few days ago, my daughter adopted a 9 week old pit, Oliver. I babysit Oliver while my daughter and her husband are at work and Mya & Oliver became quick friends and never stop playing. All is going well.

We Expanded Our Surrender Program
We are ready to save more lives!
New year! New facility! AND - a newly expanded surrender program! We are now accepting owner surrendered dogs, and will no longer be limited to owner surrendered cats.

Meet Lily, a 2 month old puppy who was the first dog surrendered through our new program. We can’t wait to help dogs just like Lily find their forever homes!

We understand that rehoming your pet is never an easy decision. We are ready to help you make the right choice for you and your pet.

Welcome!

After 110 years, Butte Humane Society finally has our own "forever home" and we want to share it with you!
