Say hello to Lucy, a sweet dog dog full of love for everyone she meets!
Dog of the Month: Meet Lucy!
Hi! My name is Lucy and I just recently came to the shelter as an owner surrender. I'm about 8 years old. I'm a very happy and excited girl.

I love to spend my days chasing around and playing with balls. I'm very friendly with people but have yet to be tried with other dogs or cats.

The ideal home for me would be with a loving family that gives me all the attention I want. I have lots of energy for being 8, so I'm able to keep up with an active household.

If you are interested in me, fill out an application and our adoptions staff will get in touch with you.

March 7th kicks off March Muttness!

March Muttness is a mini competition of cuteness and athletic skill that will help provide exposure to long stay dogs in the shelter.

To choose which long stay dog is crowned champion. Leave a heart or care emoji to select which dog you would like to see go to the finals!

If any of our dogs are adopted before the last week of March, they automatically win the best prize of all - a forever home!

All dogs featured will be competing for the best of something unique! Pick your favorite, share our posts, and help a shelter dog find their way home!
Foster Open House
March 21st 4pm - 7pm | Located at BHS Education Center
Learn the joys of fostering pets at our upcoming open house!

Fosters are hero's who open their hearts and homes to shelter kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs! Fosters provide a temporary home away from the shelter life. Which is an irreplaceable service that makes a world of difference in the humane care and treatment for pets waiting for forever homes, and with kitten season just around the corner. We need new fosters now more than ever.

Since fosters open their homes, we thought we'd open ours! Join us March 21st in our new Education Center from 4pm to 7pm to learn all about the foster opportunities BHS has in store!

One lucky winner will also have a shot at winning a $250 raffle basket from Sierra Nevada. After completing our foster orientation program!

Sweet Success Story: Ally
Ally is doing wonderful. She is absolutely happy and loves my Son and Husband. We are having some issues with potty training but we know that will get better. The most fun thing with Ally is how much she loves my Son. He is 4 years old and has been around dogs his whole life. We have a young blue nose pit we adopted last year, Bubba, and the two of them play all day. They are definitely best friends. Bubba has lit up since we adopted Ally. He used to be a bit overweight but is perfect now. She is a total sweetheart

Volunteer Spotlight: Avery and Kat
Avery and Kat began volunteering with Butte Humane Society in January of this year, and immediately became dedicated to volunteering with our animals on a regular basis. What is special about this is that they are just 16 years old. It is rare to find Junior Volunteers that so readily dedicate their spare time to volunteerism. They are great with our animals and it’s been wonderful to see young people setting such a great example for others their age.

Get Ready to Jam! Woofstock Chico will be Hitting the Stage this Spring
BHS is setting the stage for a community spring event of peace, love, and pets! It’s good vibes only at our 10 acre new location at our “fur-ever” home on Garner Lane in Chico.

All two to four legged friends are invited to join BHS for a community festival and team fundraiser event inspired by the Swinging Sixties. Guests will enjoy pet and family friendly activities, doggy demos, food, locally crafted beer courtesy of Sierra Nevada, and of course great music!

This throwback spring event will be an exciting pet-friendly party in BHS’s new backyard. Grab your best tie-dye threads, lawn chairs, and blankets for an unforgettable festival experience that benefits shelter animals in your local community.

Woofstock Chico will be ready to jam on June 4th, 2022 from 11am-5pm! Save the date, and together let’s stand for animal welfare advocacy.

Make or join a team for peer to peer - or should we say “peer to paw” team fundraising! Collab with friends and fellow animal lovers to raise funds for the 800+ cats and dogs BHS cares for each year!
