CELEBRATING SAINT LUKE: A DAY OF FAITH & SWEET TRADITIONS

On Wednesday, we honored the Feast of Saint Luke, revered as the patron saint of physicians, surgeons, and artists. As the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, Saint Luke is celebrated for his literary contributions to the New Testament. He journeyed extensively with St. Paul on his missionary travels and holds the distinction of being the first recorded Christian physician and among the earliest converts to Christianity.

To commemorate Saint Luke's Day, the Japonica Campus paraded with banners leading to their weekly chapel service while both campuses enjoyed a sweet treat of cupcakes to mark the occasion.

ST. LUKE'S ROBOTICS TEAM GEARS UP FOR THE "LOW G" COMPETITION BY SENIOR MEGAN MCDONOUGH

St. Luke’s robotics team is at the height of its season and has been working exceptionally hard to prepare for their competition at Troy University! Our robotics program was initially implemented in 2007 but hit a bump in the road due to Covid-19. However, Senior Zane West personally brought our robotics program back to its former glory and continues developing this student-led organization.

Last year, the robotics team competed at the Emerald Coast Competition and placed first in Robot Performance. This year, the team has tripled in size and has been working nonstop to prepare for the “Low G” competition on November 16th. The engineering team has built its long-awaited robot, which is ready to compete! Alongside the engineering team, the marketing team has been busy creating the booth and advertising through t-shirts, business cards, and sponsors.

Robotics inspires students to pursue influential engineering, science, and technology careers. This program's future lies in the support of the St. Luke’s community and our students' passions for STEM+M. We are counting down the days until the competition, and we hope to see you support our team in Troy!

2nD GRADE HAS FUN DOWN ON THE FARM

St. Luke's 2nd graders got to experience what life is like on the farm! Our students had a fantastic time at Middleton Farms, learning about the farm's processes for planting, harvesting, and growing crops to feed the dairy cows. They also witnessed a live cow-milking demonstration and even had the chance to bottle-feed baby calves! The students also enjoyed taking a hayride around the farm. As a bonus, they planted sunflower seeds and made fresh butter!

BIOMED STUDENTS EXPLORE PUBLIC HEALTH

St. Luke’s Biomedical Sciences Fundamentals 1 classes enjoyed a week-long learning experience about public health. For several years, the Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) has sent employees from various departments to discuss the many aspects of public health.

Over the course of a week, students learned about the Overdose Prevention Program, infectious diseases, animal bites, wellness programs, wellness checks, healthcare for pregnant women, restaurant and hotel inspections, mosquito control, mosquito-borne illnesses, and much more.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM BONDING

The middle school football team had a great time attending the South Alabama vs Troy football game. They cheered until the game ended and met a few Jags players afterward.

They also took pictures with St. Luke's alumni and Jag's cheerleader, JaeAnna Gaston.

ST. LUKE'S YOUNG CULINARY STAR SHINES

Cammie and friends from St. Luke's represented our school (and Dragonfly Dust Seasoning) at the Grilled Cheese Meltdown and took home two wins: 2nd place - People's Choice and 3rd place - Judge's Choice!

The girls competed with restaurants, local businesses, and culinary schools, placing in two categories out

of 16 teams! Cammie and her group were the only youth who competed.

We're so proud of you and can't wait to see what's cookin' next!

ST. LUKE'S CENTER STAGE PRESENTS "PATTERNS & POWER:

THE FEMALE EDISON" - OCTOBER 26 & 27th

Join us for our 1st Annual Trumbauer Showcase! Our Center Stage students will be competing at the District Trumbauer Theatre Competition soon, and you have the exciting chance to see their pieces before the competition! Students will perform their individual solos, monologues, and duet scenes, as well as our Fall Play, "Patterns and Power: The Female Edison".

In th-year-e 19th century, the patterns of life were often rigid and unchanging. How di year old girl, with little education and no experience with mechanical engineering, invent a safety part for a power loom? How did she not only get mill management to listen to her idea, but implement it? That’s exactly what Margaret E. Knight did. Based on the true story of this inventor, the play asks the question: how did she break the pattern?

The performances will be on October 26th at 6:00 p.m and October 27th at 3:00 p.m.

Please email hsmith@slesmobile.org with any questions.
