WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT ST. LUKE'S

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, St. Luke’s social media intern, Abby K. Ott, asked some of the University Campus students a simple but meaningful question: What do you LOVE about St. Luke’s?

From favorite teachers and friendships to opportunities in athletics, arts, and academics, their answers were heartfelt and inspiring. It’s always special to hear directly from our students about what makes their experience here so meaningful.

Click the link below to watch the video and hear what they had to say—

we think you’ll love it as much as we do!

LITTLES & BIGS SPREAD THE LOVE

We LOVE when our K5 littles and 8th-grade bigs come together to make memories! There is something so special about watching these friendships grow across grade levels.

This time, our K5 students traveled to the University Campus to join their 8th-grade buddies in creating Valentine’s Day cards for the residents of Murray House. The room was filled with laughter and creativity as they worked side by side, sharing smiles and sweet conversations.

It was a special treat to have them all together—enjoying one another and spreading kindness beyond our campus walls. Moments like these remind us that at St. Luke’s,

community is at the heart of everything we do.

HISTORY YOU CAN TASTE: AP US HISTORY EXPLORES

THE AMERICAN WEST

After a weeklong case study and discussion in Coach Russell's class, AP US History students wrapped up their unit on American Western Expansion by exploring the Cheyenne Odyssey simulation and making pemmican, a traditional Indigenous high-energy survival food. Based on their reactions, it was a memorable way to connect food, environment, and survival to the history they studied!

A STANDING OVATION FOR NEHA!

Thank you to Neha for winning $500 to donate to St. Luke's Arts Department and sharing these special treasures following her first-place win for an incredible solo performance of “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman at the Distinguished Young Women talent show.

We are so proud of the way Neha represented St. Luke’s with poise, confidence, and extraordinary talent.

She will continue her journey this summer as she participates in Distinguished Young Women activities, and we can’t wait to see all she accomplishes next.

Congratulations, Neha—and thank you for giving back to the arts program that supports students like you!

ST. LUKE'S STEM+M STUDENTS TAKE LEARNING TO NEW HEIGHTS

Mrs. Haynes’ STEM+M students recently took on the exciting challenge of designing, building, and launching their own rockets. After conducting rocket engine tests and making necessary adjustments, students prepared for launch day. In a safe and carefully controlled environment, their rockets soared—simulating the experience of a real-world rocket launch.

This project gave students the opportunity to apply engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and teamwork in an unforgettable, real-world learning experience.

Experiences like this are what STEM+M at St. Luke’s is all about — learning by doing, problem-solving in real time, and discovering just how high their ideas can soar.

The future of innovation is bright… and it’s launching right here at St. Luke’s!

CULINARY MEDICINE IN ACTION: UNDERSTANDING

TEXTURE, TASTE, & CARE

Cheryl Brown teaches our Culinary Medicine Class and is also the Director of Dining Services. She recently led an engaging and eye-opening lesson focused on thickening agents, food texture, and consistency.

Drawing from her years of experience serving patients in assisted living facilities and hospitals,

Mrs. Cheryl explained the critical role that liquid and soft diets play for individuals with swallowing difficulties. Students learned how these specialized diets support patients who have experienced a stroke, are living with advanced conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s disease, are recovering from traumatic injuries or surgical procedures, or face other challenges that affect swallowing.

During the hands-on portion of the lesson, students added thickening agents to different liquids, transforming them into nectar, honey, and pudding-like consistencies—without altering the taste.

Through this immersive experience, students gained a deeper appreciation for the connection between nutrition, texture, and patient care. They continue to thoroughly enjoy their time in Culinary Medicine—and remain great sports when it comes to tasting just about anything in the name of learning!
