Classes with 100% participation (minimum gift of $10) made before March 26th at 3:00 p.m. will be celebrated on March 28th. The lower campus classes with 100% participation will have a popsicle party; on the upper campus, students will have an out-of-uniform day.

Also, if their class is 1st to reach 100% parent participation, the teacher will receive a $100 gift card ($50 for each teacher after that.)

STEM(M) AT ST. LUKE'S

Featuring: St. Luke's Biomedical Sciences Program Hosted Spartanburg Day School

St. Luke's Biomedical Sciences Program enjoyed hosting Spartanburg Day School from South Carolina. SDS is similar to St. Luke's in so many ways. They are a K2-12 school, about the same size, and was founded only 3 years before us in 1957. Our St. Luke's community should be very proud of the Biomed students who did an outstanding job representing the program and our entire school community! SDS hopes to begin a similar program to ours soon, so they were visiting to learn more about the classroom and clinical experiences, relationship building, the rigor of the program, and the incredible outcomes we have amassed. Below are just a few of the demonstrations and discussions led by students from all our program courses. While our curriculum is rooted in career exploration and opportunities, it is also rooted in science, technology, engineering, and math principles, making it truly a one-of-a-kind educational experience for our students.

Demonstrations and discussions included: actual ultrasound of a student's heart, vaccine and insulin injections, cast removal, pediatric dentistry, culinary medicine recipes/ingredient substitutions, /nutrition information, athletic knee taping. shoulder rehabilitation, grip strength, periodization chart for sports training, design of a functional athletic training facility, explanation of trauma week, forensics week, and mass casualty drills, application of moulage injuries, laparoscopic surgery simulation, nutrition content, preparation, and sampling of military rations (MREs) , suturing and surgical knot-tying, research, outreach, and job shadow requirements and experiences

bacteria and virus air filtration systems and purification, GMO (genetically modified organisms) pros and cons, 3D design and printing of prosthetics, anatomical scanning, telehealth assessment, CPR (BLS) certification, food handler's certification, spine stabilization and back boarding, and MORE!

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES STUDENT INSPIRES YOUNG MINDS WITH FUN & EDUCATIONAL DENTAL LESSONS

Interventions in Biomedical Sciences students have begun their outreach assignments. They must choose a class other than their own here at St. Luke's, give a presentation, and conduct an activity. Senior Ria Gupta decided to teach Mrs. Gwin’s K4 class about the four types of teeth and their functions and made a “marshmallow mouth” for their activity. The students enjoyed the lesson and learned something new about teeth! Great job, Ria!

ENGAGING CREATIVITY: EXPLORING PHYSICS THROUGH RUBE GOLDBERG MACHINES

Upon gaining knowledge of basic machines, Mrs. Haynes' physics students were tasked with designing and building a Rube Goldberg Machine. A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption that is intentionally designed to perform simple tasks in overly complicated ways. Building a Rube Goldberg machine is an engaging, challenging, creative, and fun way to explore many different ideas in physics and put all of those ideas together to problem solve

ST. LUKE'S CELEBRATES READING!

St. Luke’s students enjoyed parading around campus dressed as their favorite book character for “Read Across America Day” and to celebrate our LOVE of reading!  This motivational and awareness day calls all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading and encourages them to read wherever they are.

10th-GRADE HONORS ENGLISH STUDENTS UNLEASH THRILLING A THRILLING MURDER MYSTERY ADVENTURE

10th Grade Honors English students hosted a murder mystery activity for the upper-level campus. After finishing their unit on mystery, the 10th Grade Honors English students broke into groups and wrote an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery based on St. Luke's Campus. One group from each class was chosen to present their mystery to the school. We invited other classes to receive the clues written by the students and to try to solve the mystery! The winners received prizes, but everyone got to enjoy the beautiful weather and put their crime-solving skills to the test!

EXPLORING STRUCTURAL EFFICIENCY: PLAYING CARD STRUCTURES IN CIVIL ENGINEERING/ARCHITECTURE CLASS

Structural Engineers face the challenge of designing structures that can support not only the weight of the structure itself but other loads as well. Students in the new Civil Engineering and Architecture class built structures out of playing cards, tested their strength, and then used their data to calculate the structural efficiency of their structures. This information will help them design structural supports for their 2nd Semester Design Project.

SECOND-GRADE TECH CLASS DIVES INTO PRESIDENTIAL RESEARCH

Second-grade students researched facts about a president of their choice during their technology class. They enjoyed discovering intriguing information about their selected presidents and learning about their accomplishments and actions during office.

NATIONAL LATIN EXAM PREPARATION

Mrs. Harrison reviews with students for the National Latin Exam (NLE), which is given annually to Latin students in the US and around the world. The NLE's primary purposes are to promote Latin study and encourage individual students. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates and medals and may even qualify for scholarships.
