AT ST. LUKE'S WE ARE THANKFUL

At St. Luke’s, we are truly thankful for the many, many blessings that enrich our community. Among these, we hold our seniors, the Class of 2025, in high esteem. Continuing a cherished tradition, our seniors enjoy a special lunch sponsored by their dedicated class parents each month. This month, the festive spirit of Thanksgiving provided the perfect backdrop for a heartwarming celebration—a Thanksgiving Feast shared amongst friends!

This luncheon reminds us of the bonds the Class of 2025 has built over their years together. It’s a time to pause and appreciate the friendships, experiences, and memories of their journey at St. Luke’s.

***Thank you to senior dad Gordon Stevens for always helping out by sharing his wonderful photos!***

ENHANCING EDUCATION THROUGH CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS

Classroom observations are an integral part of the school accreditation process. In addition to ensuring the quality of instruction and alignment with standards, they allow students to demonstrate skills they are learning or have mastered.

Last week, Mrs. Banks and Mrs. McCleery visited classes on the Japonica campus. They observed lessons on electrical circuits, 3D prosthetics, designing turkey roosts, and constructing American flags from STEM materials. The latter is an example of how STEM+M at St Luke's is incorporated into all aspects of education, including social studies.

ST. LUKE'S ROBOTICS TEAM ADVANCES TO THE SOUTH BEST CHAMPIONSHIP WITH STELLAR ACHIEVEMENTS

St. Luke's Robotics team is advancing to the South BEST Robotics Championship at Alabama A&M University on December 13-14! We're beyond proud of their incredible achievements, including the prestigious Founders Award for Creative Design, 3rd Place in Critical Robot Design and Exhibit & Informal Interview, and an impressive 2nd Place in Robot Performance. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication are truly inspiring. Let’s keep the momentum going!

EXPLORING THE POWER OF CIRCUITS IN MS. WATSON'S CLASS

Our BRIGHT 4th graders in Ms. Watson’s class have been electrifying their minds by studying “Energy and Electric Circuits.” From series to parallel circuits, they’ve been hands-on, discovering how electricity flows and powers our world.

THE BUZZ AT ST. LUKE'S

Here’s the St. Luke’s Spelling Bee BUZZ: On Tuesday, we held our annual 4th-8th grade Spelling Bee

with 8th grader Abby K Ott emerging as the winner and 4th grader Charlotte Martin as the runner-up. Abby K and Charlotte will advance to the Mobile County Spelling Bee. Congratulations to ALL of the participants for being E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! Great job, Wildcats!

ST. LUKE'S HOSTS DESIGN STUDIO FOR GULF COAST

ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

As the anchor organization for the newly formed Gulf Coast STEM+M Ecosystem, St. Luke's recently hosted a Design Studio to approve the Mission and Vision and create goals for the State of Alabama Region 7. The Alabama STEM Council and TIES (Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM) led the workshop. It was attended by local industry, K-12 and higher education, informal and after-school educational programs, non-profit organizations, and community members. We are very proud of our student representatives who contributed several ideas on how best to meet the growing workforce development needs in our nine-county region. These young men represented themselves, our school, and our community exceedingly well.

The steering committee in attendance: AM/NS Calvert, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Evonik, George Hall Elementary, St. Luke's Episcopal School, USA School of Computing, Gordon Stevens, Mac Boone, D'Anthony Washam, and Rishi Gupta.

If you or your company/organization would like more information on the developing Gulf Coast STEM+M Ecosystem, please contact Racheal Banks @ rbanks@slesmobile.org

5th GRADE SNEAK PEEK OF THE "BIG" CAMPUS

We LOVED having the 5th graders visit for their official "Sneak Peek" of life on the University Campus! Their busy afternoon started with lunch in the "BIG" dining hall, art with Mrs. Cummings, a middle school band performance, a guest Q&A session (with Mrs. Banks, Mr. Tillman, Coach Donald, Coach Gilmore, Mrs. Lersch, select 6th graders, middle school athletes, middle school student council members, and our Azalea Trail Maid, Melanie Davis), and a campus tour.

They left feeling excited to come to the BIG campus for middle school next year, and we are

CERTAINLY happy to welcome them!

ST. LUKE'S MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL: FINDING NEMO KIDS

Some of our middle school students took to the stage with their phenomenal production of Finding Nemo Kids. Based on the popular Pixar film, this beloved musical brought the underwater adventure to life! Our students' dedication and hard work were evident as they delivered a powerful performance.

This production was more than a school musical; it celebrated creativity, teamwork, and the joy of performing arts! Bravo to everyone involved!

BIOMED STUDENTS' SURGICAL DEXTERITY LAB

During a recent Interventions in Biomedical Sciences skills lab, the students were challenged to remove seeds from a bell pepper using surgical instruments. They thought it sounded easy until they were instructed to use their non-dominant hand and remove only one seed at a time while not touching any other part of the pepper. The exercise was intended to simulate the removal of cancer cells in which surgeons aim to avoid contact between the cancerous tissue and any other surface to minimize the spread of malignant cells. Practicing skills such as this helps aspiring surgeons learn surgical dexterity.
