ST. LUKE'S VETERANS DAY 2025

St. Luke's has proudly celebrated Veterans Day in school since 2010 - without taking the day off - as a way to honor our veterans publicly and learn through participation in meaningful programs on both campuses. Each year, our students, faculty, and staff dedicate time and heartfelt effort to create special tributes that express our deep appreciation for the men and women who have served our country. We hope every veteran who attended feels how genuinely grateful we are for their service and sacrifice.

Our 2025 programs were filled with gratitude, pride, and patriotism. On the University Campus, the morning began with a breakfast for veterans and their guests, followed by a heartfelt program featuring Guest Speaker Commander David Tharp, inspiring patriotic music by St. Luke's Band under the direction of Mr. Daniel Driskell, and the Presentation of Colors by our Class of 2026 Eagle Scouts - Mac Boone, Ackley Hoffman, and Cain Matthews. Center Stage students beautifully narrated the Path of Patriots, reminding us of the courage and sacrifice of those who have served.

On the Japonica Campus, our talented 5th-grade students led a moving ceremony featuring patriotic songs, also led by Mr. D, including the Armed Forces Medley and the Presentation of Armed Forces Flags. We were honored to have Rt. Rev. J. Russell Kendrick, Bishop of the Central Gulf Coast, join us for the celebration. The morning concluded with a reception for veterans, their guests, and our 5th graders, a special time to share our appreciation.

Both campuses also enjoyed a touching Salute to our Veterans video created by Mr. Matt Farnell, and Rev. Ken Cumbie, Commander Chaplain Corps, United States Navy (Retired), offered the closing prayers.

We are deeply grateful to all who have served and to everyone who helped make this meaningful

tradition possible.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE:

SAIS ACCREDITATION TEAM VISITS ST. LUKE'S

St. Luke’s was delighted to welcome the SAIS Accreditation Team to our campus! Their visit provided a wonderful opportunity to share and showcase the many great things happening at our school. The team met with some of our students, who proudly demonstrated what makes a St. Luke’s education truly exceptional. We are grateful for the chance to reflect on our growth and celebrate all that makes our community so special.

K3 & K4 THANKSGIVING PERFORMANCE

Our K3 and K4 students wowed the audience with their outstanding Thanksgiving performance! Their enthusiasm and joy on stage were a perfect reflection of the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and Mr. Driskell. This special performance showcased not only their talent but also the nurturing and encouraging environment that helps our youngest Wildcats shine.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who made it possible for our K3 and K4 students to experience the joy of performing at such a young age — we are so very proud!

A VISIT FROM THE MOBILE OPERA: "THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE"

Students in grades K–5 enjoyed a special performance of “The Tortoise and the Hare” by the Mobile Opera. The wonderful production brought music and storytelling to life, sharing lessons about perseverance and friendship. It was a wonderful visit filled with learning and the joy of the arts!

WILD HISTORY COMES ALIVE: A "SWEET" LESSON ON TAXATION

Mrs. Wallace's 7th-grade history class dove into the concept of "Taxation without Representation" with a fun, interactive Skittles simulation. Students were assigned roles - King, Parliament, Tax Collector, and Colonists. The colonists were given the same number of Skittles. The King drew a card to determine the amount of the new "tax." Parliament announced the new tax. The Tax Collector collected the required Skittles from the "colonists." The colonists quickly grew upset with the system - often directing their frustration at the Tax Collector.

Once all "taxes" were collected, the Skittles were distributed to the Tax Collector (5%), Parliament (50%), King (45%). This activity provided a tangible understanding of the frustration and inequity that fueled the American Revolution.

PENNIES FOR PATRIOTS (NOVEMBER 10-21)

During the month of November, we take time to honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our country. In that spirit, our school will be participating in a special project called Pennies for Patriots. This is a simple but meaningful way for our students to show their

appreciation for our veterans.

From November 10–21, 2025, students are invited to bring in small change —pennies, nickels, dimes, or quarters — to place in the Pennies for Patriots jars in their classrooms. Every contribution, no matter the size, is a heartfelt way to say “thank you” to those who have sacrificed for our freedom.

At the end of the campaign, the funds collected will be donated to support local veterans’ organizations. This project helps our students learn the importance of gratitude, generosity, and community service.

Thank you for helping us make a difference as we honor our heroes this Veterans Month!
