MRS. PEREZ’S BIOLOGY CLASS LAB: MURDER & A MEAL

A murder occurred and St. Luke’s top-notch biology students were asked to assist in the investigation. In order to find a suspect, they need to establish where the victim was on the day of the crime so the detectives can question individuals with whom the victim came into contact.

Students tested the "stomach contents" for the presence of certain macromolecules to determine the victim's last possible meal, revealing where he ate and who he ate with, meaning he ate dinner with the killer.

YOUNG MINDS AT WORK: DESIGNING BARGES

Engineering minds at work! Our Japonica Campus students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test in the science lab by designing foil barges to hold the most cargo before sinking. The results? Floating brilliance!

BIOMED INNOVATIONS STUDENT LEARN VALUABLE LeSSON IN TECHNICAL WRITING

In Biomedical Sciences, students engage with complex theories, experiments, and research techniques. However, technical writing is crucial for communicating scientific findings and drafting documents like research papers and standard operating procedures. To highlight the importance of clear, concise writing, students were tasked with creating written instructions for simple tasks such as drawing a box, making waffles, or assembling an ice cream sundae. They quickly realized that writing precise directions was more challenging than expected, requiring detailed thinking to avoid confusion. This exercise revealed the ease of overlooking obvious steps and highlighted the essential skill of clear and concise technical writing, distinguishing it from verbal instructions.

AP GOVERNMENT & POLITICS STUDENTS DEBATE VARIOUS CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM ISSUES

The AP Government & Politics classes recently held an engaging class where students presented their arguments for and against various Constitutional reforms. This exercise not only allowed students to delve deeply into the intricacies of the U.S. Constitution but also to develop their public speaking and critical thinking skills. The students were given three minutes to ensure they delivered concise and impactful arguments. After each presentation, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions. This interactive component fostered a deeper understanding of the subject matter and encouraged students to engage with complex issues and articulate their positions clearly and persuasively.
