LITTLE LEARNERS, BIG DISCOVERIES

Our preschool students love visiting the Biomedical Sciences Lab with Mrs. Thompson! We’re proud that our STEM+M program includes medicine, giving our students an unmatched advantage and inspiring a love of learning from the very start.

8th GRADE: EXPLORING PHYSICAL v. CHEMICAL CHANGES

IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Mrs. Perez’s physical science students explored physical and chemical properties by mixing everyday white powdered cooking substances with water, iodine, and vinegar to determine whether a physical or chemical change occurred.

INTERVENTIONS IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES STUDENTS TOUR SAADS

Our Interventions in Biomedical Sciences classes were divided into four groups for a meaningful visit to Saad’s Hospice, where students toured the organization’s beautiful facilities and learned about the compassionate services they provide to patients and families. This experience gave students valuable real-world insight into healthcare careers while emphasizing the importance of empathy and community impact in the medical field.

ROSE PEREZ WINS AREA DAR ESSAY COMPETITION

Congratulations to Rose Perez on winning the Daughters of the American Revolution Area Competition with her outstanding essay! The American History Essay Contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation's great history and learn about history in a new light.

Rose's impressive achievement reflects her strong writing skills, historical understanding, and dedication. She will now advance to the District Competition, and we are so proud of her success.

Best of luck as you continue to represent St. Luke’s—congratulations!

SNOWFLAKE SCIENCE IN STEM+M

Our Lower Campus students had a wonderful time creating snowflakes during their STEM+M class! Through hands-on activities, they explored patterns, symmetry, and design while combining creativity with critical thinking. Learning comes to life when science and imagination come together—and these snowflake creations were as unique as our students!

WRITING IS A PROCESS:

INSIDE MS. HARVILLE'S WRITING WORKSHOP

In Ms. Harville’s writing workshop, students experienced what it truly means to be a writer. Students were given the freedom to choose their own topics - focusing on unsolved mysteries - which sparked curiosity, engagement, and thoughtful discussion.

Throughout the workshop, students shared their research and writing with one another, asked questions, and offered feedback when classmates felt stuck. This collaborative approach helped students learn how to structure their writing and understand that strong writing doesn’t happen all at once. Instead, they discovered that writing is a process—one that involves revising, refining, and editing over time rather than completing an essay in just a few days.

To model this process, the class even selected a topic for Ms. Harville, who wrote her own essay alongside the students. Seeing their teacher work through the same steps reinforced the importance of patience, persistence, and revision. The students truly enjoyed this experience and gained valuable skills that will strengthen their writing well beyond this workshop.

COZY LEARNING: EXPLORING HIBERNATION IN K4

Our K4 students are learning about the fascinating topic of hibernation and how animals survive the cold winter months. Students were encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to “hibernate.” Hopefully, these animals will sleep through their entire hibernation and then emerge from their den on the first day of spring, hungry and ready to find food!
