9th GRADE VISITS AFRICATOWN

Recently, our 9th-grade students traveled to Africatown Heritage House to explore the powerful history of the Clotilda and the legacy it left in Mobile. This real-life setting connects directly to Barracoon by Zora Neale Hurston, the book students are currently reading in class, bringing the text to life.

During the visit, students learned about the people aboard the Clotilda, their lives in Mobile, and the ways African culture was preserved and passed down through generations. Students viewed artifacts from the ship, toured the exhibits, and gained a deeper understanding of how this history continues to shape our city today.

The experience concluded with a hands-on activity as students created their own story quilts, reflecting on the journey, resilience, and voices they encountered. It was a memorable and impactful learning experience—one that connected literature, history, and culture in a powerful way.

LEARNING TO REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE

Don Bates from the Osprey Initiative, along with his wife, recently visited campus to lead an educational presentation connected to the recycling service they provide for our school. This service is made possible through grant funding and supports our ongoing sustainability efforts.

During the visit, the Green Team was recognized by Keep Mobile Beautiful for their campus beautification projects—a meaningful acknowledgment of their hard work and commitment to caring for our

school environment.

The presentation focused on where litter comes from, where it ends up, and how students can properly sort materials for recycling. Through this hands-on learning experience, students gained a better understanding of how small actions can make a big impact on our community and the environment.

CELEBRATING OUR BASKETBALL SENIORS

The University Campus celebrated Basketball Senior Night with a pep rally filled with Wildcat pride, school spirit, and heartfelt appreciation. We all came together to cheer on our seniors and recognize the dedication, leadership, and commitment they have shown throughout their time as Wildcats.

Thank you to our seniors for representing St. Luke’s with determination, teamwork, and heart. Your impact on our school will be felt long after the final buzzer. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!

ST. LUKE'S STUDENTS PREPARE FOR JAPAN

During Mardi Gras break, a group of 36 St. Luke’s students will embark on an unforgettable journey to Japan. As part of their preparation, students recently had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the local Japanese society. During the visit, students learned more about Japanese culture, customs, and traditions, while also gaining valuable insight into what to expect during their upcoming travels. The conversation offered a deeper understanding of daily life in Japan and helped build excitement and confidence as the trip approaches.

This pre-trip experience was a meaningful step in preparing our students to travel thoughtfully, respectfully, and with curiosity as they represent St. Luke’s abroad. We look forward to following their journey and the global perspective they will bring back with them!

2025 STATE RUNNER-UP BANNER REVEALS

This week, the University Campus gathered to celebrate an unforgettable achievement as the Girls Soccer and Tennis teams unveiled their 2025 State Runner-Up banners—a symbol of excellence that will hang in the gym for years to come. These banners represent more than just remarkable seasons. They honor the dedication, resilience, and teamwork displayed by our student-athletes and coaches.

Congratulations to both teams on seasons that will always be remembered!

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE WEEK - JANUARY

Each week, students and faculty nominate peers who demonstrate kindness, positivity, and all-around awesomeness. Our middle schoolers have truly enjoyed celebrating one another and highlighting the great things their classmates are doing. Congratulations to our January Middle School Students of the Week: Amos Moses, Raheem Curtis, and Erinne Lang!

TURNING TRASH INTO TREASURE

As part of their study of recycling and the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, students put their learning into action through a creative, hands-on project.

Using materials that would have otherwise been thrown away, students designed and built original creations by repurposing everyday items. Each student then explained what they created and how their design could be used, demonstrating both creativity and thoughtful problem-solving.

This project encouraged students to see the value in reusing materials while reinforcing the importance of caring for our environment through innovation and responsible choices.
