WILDCATS BRING THE SPIRIT

The University Campus was loud, proud, and full of Wildcat spirit last week as students came together for our first official pep rally of the school year!

With plenty of red and black, cheers, games, music, and excitement, our Wildcats packed the gym to get fired up before the first home football game of the season.

There’s nothing quite like seeing our students come together to support one another and celebrate what it means to be a Wildcat. Here’s to a year filled with school spirit, great memories, and lots of reasons to cheer! GO WILDCATS!

TAKE A SEAT, MAKE A FRIEND

The Japonica Campus Buddy Bench is a special spot with a very special purpose! Donated by a previous class, the bench is there for any Wildcat who may be looking for a buddy to play with or simply wants a place to sit, talk, and enjoy time with friends on a beautiful day.

It’s a sweet reminder that at St. Luke’s, kindness, friendship, and making sure everyone feels included are always worth celebrating!

BIOMEDICAL STUDENTS PREPARE FOR THE REAL WORLD

WITH SAFE SHIFT

Before Biomedical Sciences students enter real healthcare environments, they need to know more than clinical skills - they also need to understand how to protect their patients.

Clinical Skills Lab Assistants Sophie Dolbear and Millie Wilson, both Class of 2027, worked with their teacher, Mrs. Diane McCleery, to create SAFE SHIFT, a Labor & Delivery escape-room experience for Mr. David Bentley’s Fundamentals I and II Biomedical Sciences classes. The activity provides an engaging, hands-on way for students to review HIPAA, patient privacy, and healthcare safety expectations before entering an actual healthcare setting.

Students begin their “first shift” on a simulated Labor & Delivery unit and quickly discover that the night shift has left behind a number of problems. With Joint Commission surveyors expected to arrive in just 40 minutes, teams must inspect the unit, identify and correct HIPAA and safety violations, solve clues, and use hospital training resources to get the unit “Survey Ready.”

The realistic simulation challenges students to recognize concerns involving patient confidentiality, social media, medication safety, sharps, environmental hazards, computer security, emergency equipment access, and more - all while communicating and working together as a healthcare team.

It’s another way St. Luke’s Biomedical Sciences moves learning beyond the textbook, giving students opportunities to think, problem-solve, collaborate, and practice professional decision-making before stepping into an actual healthcare environment.

A SHOUT-OUT FOR MAKING GREAT CHOICES

There’s something new to celebrate on the Japonica Campus - Shout Outs!

Students who are spotted making good choices, showing kindness, demonstrating respect, or going out of their way to help another student or adult may receive a special Shout Out!

Mrs. Wallace recognizes these Wildcats during Chapel by giving them a Shout Out card to take home and proudly share with their families.

We love finding new ways to celebrate our students for doing the little things that make a BIG difference. Keep making great choices, Wildcats - you never know when you might get the next Shout Out!
