ST. LUKE'S KICKS OFF 2025 WITH FAITH & FELLOWSHIP

Last Friday, St. Luke’s faculty and staff gathered for a heartfelt prayer service and meetings to launch the new year. We’re ready to embrace the 2nd semester with renewed spirit and enthusiasm.

Let’s make 2025 an incredible year of learning and growth!

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN STEM+M EDUCATION

We are thrilled to announce that Amber Miniard and Dana Thompson have achieved the prestigious National Certificate for STEM Teaching from the National Institute for STEM Education. This remarkable accomplishment places them among a select group of educators nationwide who have successfully demonstrated the fifteen essential teacher actions across three critical domains of quality STEM instruction.

This certification emphasizes student autonomy, constructivism, explicit and reflective methodology, and the development of 21st-century skills, marking it as a leading advancement in K-12 STEM education. With this achievement, St. Luke’s now proudly boasts five teachers who have achieved this certification, which also includes Debbie Cummings, Dunkin Ann Friedlander, and Diane Swearingen.

We congratulate these dedicated educators for their hard work and commitment to enhancing their expertise. Their efforts reflect their dedication and greatly enrich our students' learning experiences at St. Luke's. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure a brighter future for our students.

MRS. LERSCH'S 6TH GRADE FLIGHT & SPACE CLASS

SOARS TO SUCCESS

Mrs. Lersch’s 6th grade Flight and Space Class learned how to investigate, innovate, and use creative thinking and problem-solving skills to learn how scientists and engineers make traveling around the globe possible.

They first learned about the science of flight using aerodynamic concepts to explain how aircraft fly. After learning more about the engineering design process, investigating the effects of different airfoils used on flights, using maps for navigation, and exploring flight crew scheduling criteria, students then built a prototype of an aircraft. Next, they created a flight plan based on a challenge scenario related to crew scheduling, maintenance problems, weather, etc. Finally, they presented their findings to the class!

What a fun way to learn about flight!

ST. LUKE'S GIRL SCOUT COOKIE ALERT!

MR. BOX'S AP GOVERNMENT STUDENTS EXPERIENCE A MOCK SESSION OF THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The AP Government students recently engaged in an immersive, all-day in-school field trip where they participated in a mock session of the US House of Representatives. This educational exercise allowed them to step into the shoes of lawmakers, debating and deliberating on various issues while gaining firsthand insight into the legislative process. This experience not only deepened their understanding of government operations but also honed their public speaking and critical thinking skills, providing a practical application of their classroom learning. Did we mention their teacher is a former judge?

CELEBRATING MUSICAL EXCELLENCE: DYLAN DRISKELL JOINS

THE PRESTIGIOUS ALLSTATE CHOIR

We're thrilled to announce that Dylan Driskell has been accepted into the prestigious Allstate Choir after auditioning with students from all over the state! He will travel to Birmingham April 3-5 to rehearse with nationally recognized choral clinicians and perform a concert in the BJCC Concert Hall.

The purpose of the event is to distinguish the most outstanding students in the State of Alabama and give them the opportunity for a musical experience of the highest caliber.

Join us in congratulating Dylan on this incredible achievement!

BUILDING SKILLS & CONFIDENCE IN INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING CLASS WITH MR. MUTCHNICK

Mr. Mutchick’s Intro to Engineering Class demonstrated hands-on skills by mastering the basics of soldering on a printed circuit board and applying these skills to build a siren with flashing lights.

Mr. Mutchnick focused on guiding his students through any challenges they encountered during their engineering projects. After the assembly phase, Mr. Mutchnick and the students collaboratively tested each circuit board to confirm functionality. This process instilled a sense of pride and accomplishment in the students as they took ownership of the fully operational products they crafted!
