ST. LUKE'S HAS A LOT TO CELEBRATE!

Our University Campus students showed pride for our Wildcats or College Colors Day!

School colors are symbols of traditions, history, rivalry, joy, and fun! They elicit positivity and keep us connected to a common cause, with a "we're all in this together" mentality.

History of St. Luke's school colors:

St. Luke’s: In 2008, when it was decided to buy the University Campus and expand, St. Luke’s needed to change school colors because Mobile already had an Episcopal high school that wore red and blue—St. Paul’s. The uniform committee consulted with Zoghby’s and decided red and black was the easiest change. It was different enough from St. Paul’s but similar enough to our old colors.

K5 EXPLORES THE MAGIC OF LINES

Mrs. Morrow introduces the kindergarten art class to the fundamental element of art: the line! She starts by teaching the names of various types of lines. The students practiced drawing the different lines in the air before putting the colored pencil to paper!

ANATOMY ANTICS: APPLE MODELS AND......FUN

St. Luke’s Biomed intern and lab assistant Avery Van Alstine may have had an unexpectedly amusing time leading a recent lesson. She asked the 7-block Interventions class to follow anatomical directions by marking an apple as a model. What started as a serious educational effort quickly became a session filled with uncontrollable laughter. Who could have predicted that terms like contralateral, equidistant, midsagittal plane, and transverse plane would spark such hilarity?

A special shout-out goes to Madisen Gabel for her attempt at creating the most accurate representation. Despite her effort, the "ears" ended up where the cheeks should be, the mouth formed a circle around the eye, and the nostrils were drawn on the posterior side of the head. The creative interpretations and laughter made the lesson memorable but also underscored the fun that can be had in the learning process!

CIVIL ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS SHOWCASE INNOVATIVE DESIGNS

The Civil Engineering and Architecture students spent the week researching different architectural styles and building models of the style they researched. The students focussed on residential architecture for this activity, and presented their information and models to the class. Civil Engineering and Architecture is one of the Project Lead the Way classes offered in our new STEM+M Curriculum. Students in this class are introduced to important aspects of building and site design and development. They apply math, science, and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects and document their work using 3D architectural design software.

INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING STUDENTS RISE TO A CHALLENGE

Mr. Mutchnick's Introduction to Engineering students were given an exciting challenge: to collaborate with a partner and construct the tallest possible tower using only a single sheet of paper and a specified amount of tape. The ultimate test was for their tower to remain standing for at least 60 seconds.
