Principal's Message

Safety of your child/children is our top priorities!

In an effort to encourage more positive behavior and increased safety here at Los Perales, we have instituted some changes in our expectations and responses to negative behavior, and will be utilizing a documented standard across the entire school. These changes are as a direct result of our goal to reduce injuries, and increase safety for every child. We are already seeing very positive results from these changes.

Each adult supervising children on the playground or the playing field will have reference materials to illustrate some of the zone's behaviors, addressing the actions in response to the behavior, and how it can escalate upward.

If you have questions regarding this, please contact me.

Stephanie Richards
LP Principal

Come watch Moana with your friends!

The kids enjoy a supervised movie in the Oak Room with pizza, popcorn and drinks, and you enjoy a night out for only $15/child!   Unfortunately, no non-LP siblings allowed for insurance purposes.  Tickets can be purchased at Membership Toolkit.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes "Moana," a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana convinces the mighty demigod Maui to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she's always sought:
her own identity.

ISO: Yearbook Photos!!!

The yearbook is underway and we need photos! Hundreds of photos, thousands of photos, millions of photos!

We want every child to be represented in the yearbook, so please consider sending in pictures of your child at school, the Fun Run, Variety Show, Halloween parade, spirit assemblies, field trips and holiday parties. We would also really love pictures from special events (Native American Day, Immigration Day, etc.)

Please title your emails to help us organize photos. Even simple titles such as "Mrs. Pearce Kindergarten" or "4th grade field trip" would be great.

Send photos (highest resolution possible) to Brenna Butler at [email protected]

From the Library

This week we are talking about the Caldecott Medal.  This book award is presented annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published that year. We will be comparing the illustrations in the very first book to win this award back in 1938, Animals of the Bible: A Picture Book by Dorothy Lathrop with the most recent recipient in 2017, Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat by Javaka Steptoe. Then we will be reviewing the nominees for the 2018 LP Mock Caldecott awards. Nominees are books that are in the current LP library collection for students to check out that were published in 2017. In the older grades we will also be reviewing the 2018 LP Mock Newbery nominees. LP Ballot voting will take place during library time the week of February 6th- 9th.  The 2018 Youth Media Awards, including the Caldecott and Newbery Medals, will be announced on Monday, February 12th.

Moraga Education Foundation Phone-a-thon

The annual MEF Phone-a-thon is happening on Tuesday, February 6th and Wednesday, February 7th from 6:30- 8:30 pm. Last year's event raised over $80,000 to help fund critical staff and programs in the Moraga School District and Campolindo High School benefiting every student, every day.

MEF volunteers and staff from MSD and Campo will be making calls to
families and community members who have not yet donated or pledged to 2017- 2018 annual campaign.  Help save a phone call and volunteer time by making your donation online today!

If you would like to volunteer to call, sign up here.

Thank you for your support!
