Pawsome Animal Spotlight: Adoptable Animals

Meet Outlaw!!

7 years young, male Pit Bull Terrier and Lab Retriever Mix.

Outlaw is trying to keep up his tough guy image...But he's really the biggest softy ever. When you hear we have a dog named Outlaw, you might be thinking of Waylon Jennings, tough as leather highwaymen, and nights spent out under the stars. Nothing could be further from the truth! Outlaw would love to go for occasional adventures with his people, but would prefer a meander over a hike. His laid-back personality would make him a great buddy to binge your favorite show with. If you want a sweet dog to simply hang out with, Outlaw is the guy for you!

He begged us not to tell you that he enjoys a weekly medicated spa treatment in the tub, but he really does (he has itchy skin). And his apoquel helps keep his skin supermodel worthy. His skin care routine keeps him feeling and looking his best!

You see, Outlaw doesn’t want to be a desperado - he wants to be your baby.

Meet Rocky!!

1 year old, male Akita.

Rocky is a magnificent Akita with a heart as big as his gentle giant stature. Overflowing with affection, this lovable companion has a knack for melting hearts with his soulful eyes and loyal demeanor. Rocky exudes an air of impeccable confidence, carrying himself with grace and poise that captivates all who meet him. Whether it's a wag of his fluffy tail or a gentle nuzzle, Rocky never fails to show his unwavering love and devotion. Adopting Rocky means welcoming a steadfast and affectionate companion into your life, ready to offer a lifetime of loyalty, comfort, and companionship to a family who understands the nature of Akitas. Rocky has not shown negative reactivity toward other dogs, however there is the possibility of him being selective...He should not be in a home with cats! Rocky is a leash walk only dog at this time as he has a tendency to run. Rocky has been nothing but sweet and eager to give lick the fingers of staff as they walk through the kennels!"

Meet Leo!!

The purr-fect boy. He is 7 years old. Buff domestic longhair cat.

Leo is a sweet and affectionate male cat with a charming personality, but he can also be a bit moody at times. Despite his occasional mood swings, Leo is a loving companion who enjoys cuddles and playtime. With patience and understanding, Leo will continue to show his affectionate side while adding a touch of unpredictability to his charming demeanor.

To meet our animals please stop in during our open adoption hours (no appointment needed:

M/T/W/F 10 am - 12 pm and 2 pm -4 pm; TH 10 am -12 pm and 2 pm -6 pm, and SAT 9 am -1 pm.

To schedule an appointment outside of those hours, and/or to learn more information regarding a particular animal, please call the Feline Department at 410-848-4810 ext 822 or canine department at 410-848-4810 ext 821. If no one answers, please leave a detailed message with your name and phone number, and the call will be returned by end of business Monday - Friday.

Meet Victoria!!

This stunning girl is 8 years old and is a domestic longhair cat. Her journey with our shelter started back in 2019 when she transferred in from another organization, was adopted and now recently returned. She was absolutely well loved and cared for, but sadly seems she just never adjusted to the other cats in the home the last few years, and is chronically stressed out. Behavior meds and keeping her separate were just not working for her. Victoria would prefer to be the only cat in her future home, and we are hoping that we can find someone to open their heart and home to this special lady!

She can be a temperamental lady and often needs her space, but when she wants to cuddle, she will let you know! She absolutely loves treats and will sit and glare at you until you comply and get the bag. She can be rattled by loud or sudden noises and movements.

This regal princess is hoping that you will come meet her, and provide her with the safe, quiet and comfortable home that she deserves!

Fire Animals

April 16th began like any other day at the shelter---staff arrived to work and immediately started tending to the animals in our care. The day was not normal for long. A few hours into the work day animal control received word that there was a fire in Taneytown and they needed to help with a large amount of animals. As they are trained to do, animal control jumped into action and were soon on scene with our emergency response trailer.

The Humane Society quickly realized that we would be intaking dogs, cats, and other small critters into the shelter. Our amazing group of staff jumped into action and readied the shelter to welcome these animals needing refuge.

We ended up helping 32 dogs, 5 cats, and other small critters.

Fast forward to now---all the fire animals are safe in foster homes and receiving the care they need to start their new lives.

We will continue to update the public on the progress of these animals via social media and newsletters, and when they are ready for adoption we will let our followers know.

The vet care of these animals is astronomical--with each dog needing an average of $2,000 of vet care. The Humane Society is asking for financial assistance at this time. To donate and help these animals get a new "leash" on life--please visit our website.

Kitten Fosters Needed

Be a Hero--Be a Foster

Kitten fostering is an incredibly important and rewarding experience for anyone who loves animals. By opening your home and heart to these tiny felines, you are providing them with a safe and loving environment to grow and thrive in. Not only does fostering kittens help to save their lives, but it also helps to reduce the number of cats in shelters and rescues, giving more animals a chance to find their forever homes. As a kitten foster parent, you will have the opportunity to watch these tiny creatures develop and learn, and you will be playing a crucial role in their journey towards finding their forever families. So if you have a passion for animals and a desire to make a difference in their lives, consider becoming a kitten foster parent today!

For more information on fostering--please email Michelle at mfidler@carrollcountymd.gov
