Above and Beyond Rescue Care

Found wandering as a stray, Buford arrived at the West Suburban Humane Society frightened, underweight, and completely shut down. It was clear he hadn’t known comfort or safety in a very long time. As a part of our intake process we ran a routine heartworm test, and our hearts sank when it came back positive.

The disease is already taking a toll on his heart and lungs. Heartworm is a silent killer—preventable with simple monthly care, but fatal without treatment. For Buford, the road to recovery will be long, costly, and physically exhausting.

But he isn't fighting alone anymore. Now in a loving foster home, he has begun his months-long intensive medical treatment.

Buford's story isn't over yet, and it reminds us that simple preventatives can be lifesaving for our own pets. The treatments to help Buford beat heartworm are expensive. But we believe that despite the cost, Buford is worth it.

We Did It! Thanks For Supporting Caged For A Cause!

We raised over $30,000 at our Third Annual Caged For A Cause! This fundraising campaign featured Volunteer Fundraisers who spent half the day in the kennel to raise needed funds for the cats and dogs in our care.

Shoutout to our 11 amazing Volunteer Fundraisers: Amy Ward, Bridget Healy, Dave Welch, Heidi Janss, Jenna Smoot, Jennifer Miller, Joe Schafhauser, Keleen Mullen, Kerry Kopera, Kimberly Sennerikuppam, and Mandy Kass. They were featured on livestreams from the kennels all day long, which you can rewatch on our social media accounts!

At Gerald Subaru of Naperville, their very own kennel was set up in the dealership's showroom. There they featured special guests, adoptable puppies, games, and more. You can rewatch their livestreams on the Gerald Subaru of Naperville Facebook Page.
