| WSHS Joins The Rescue Effect Campaign! | |
The West Suburban Humane Society has joined the nationwide campaign from the ASPCA called The Rescue Effect. Working alongside animal shelters and rescues across the country, this campaign helps to raise awareness about the importance of adoption and fostering, aiming to place more animals into loving homes.
Most shelters across the country are full with nearly six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2024, and animals, especially dogs, are often staying longer in care before being adopted. Choosing to adopt helps the animal you take home and supports many more by freeing up space and resources. Animal shelters have pets of all sizes, ages and an array of wonderful personalities, and if you aren’t able to adopt, temporarily fostering also helps free up space for other animals in need.
WSHS is now listed on the official ASPCA nationwide Shelter Finder Map. From August through October, The Rescue Effect is dedicated to awareness, together we can make a difference for animals in need!

Pet Spotlight: Lupe & Gordy
| You may remember that we recently featured three amazing rescue dogs: Jeffro, Lupe, and Gordy! These pups have been patiently waiting their turn for adoption. And the great news is, Jeffro was recently adopted! | |
Gordy and Lupe are still waiting for their forever home.
Each dog’s adoption fee is now just $100—which includes vaccines, spay/neuter, a microchip, and most importantly, a whole lot of love from a really wonderful dog!

The West Suburban Humane Society was recognized by the Best Friends Animal Society for maintaining status as No-Kill in 2024!
To achieve No-Kill recognition, an animal shelter must save 90% or more of the dogs and cats that enter the facility. In 2024, the West Suburban Humane Society had a 98% save rate.
We are thankful to be recognized by a leading national animal welfare organization for our continued lifesaving work for homeless animals in need.

Summer Camp
For 8 weeks this summer, the Adoption Center hosted our annual Summer Camp with the Humane Education program! About 175 kids participated this year and had a great time learning, spending time with cats and dogs, making arts and crafts, and more.
This year we had many new campers, and offered T-shirts for the first time. Some of the participants even adopted cats and dogs with their family, how exciting!
Thank you to everyone who made Summer Camp possible, and for making our summer even more fun at WSHS!
