Celebrate your special Valentine by donating toward the care of a shelter animal this month!

Your $25 Valentine Sponsorship in honor of memory of someone special will fund approximately two days of sheltering for one of hundreds of animals in our care.

The heart your give will brighten the cage or kennel of animals patiently waiting for their special someones. By request, we will also email you a photo of the ornament and your sponsored pet to share with your Valentine.

Please help us fill the kennel and catteries with boundless love  and countless hearts.

Patrick's Story

Patrick is one of 11 dogs at risk for euthanasia that HSHC rescued the week before Christmas.  Patrick was 12 years old, heartworm positive and arthritic.  He is a perfect example of the kinds of animals on which we focus our out-of-county rescue efforts.  We believe these old souls deserve second chances too.   Happy Tails Patrick!

"Patrick is doing wonderful in his new home. He is such a fighter! Despite being heartworm positive he has never skipped a beat. He is living his best life taking plenty of naps, playing with his new sister Indy, and eating lots of treats! He has already won over his mom's heart and has quickly become a member of the family. He is looking forward to the spring sunshine and walking on the Monon Trail very soon! "-   Christine, Patrick's Mom

Paws of the Month
Meet Zoey Anne

Don't let the scars and sadness on Zoey Anne's face fool you.  When she's outside the concrete walls of the kennel, her face lights up.  She craves affection and gives enthusiastic kisses to those who show her kindness.

Zoey Anne is depressed, though.  She has been waiting for a home since December. Every dog's threshold is different--some can sustain the noise and chaos of the kennel better than others, and Zoey Anne is struggling.

Her ideal home is one with older kids due to her strength and energy, and she also prefers a a feline-free home.  She'd also like you to know ( not to brag) but she is house trained, crate trained, knows basic commands and spayed.

Please come visit Zoey Anne today!

Meet Mexico

This free spirited, 8-year-old female Calico once lived roaming a neighborhood as an outdoor kitty.  Her former owner fed her, and eventually befriended her, taking her into her home.   Mexico decided this would be her person.

Unfortunately, in April 2017, her person could no longer keep her and brought her here.  As you can imagine, going from the life of an outdoor cat, to trusting one human, to being in a cage, has been a shell-shock for Mexico.

And as with many cats who have lived much of their lives outdoors, Mexico is FIV positive.  The good news is, these cats can live happy long lives in a home without requiring any special medical care.

We hope you'll come visit Mexico, but here's what you need to expect:  She's not going to engage you at the door of her cage...she's not going to purr, in fact, she might hiss a bit...she's going to require time to build a trust in someone who understands the wild part of Mexico will always be there, as is the part of her that loved the woman who saved her--and that's ok.

Perhaps you're the one who will save her now.

Employee of the Month
Amelia Calley

Amelia  has been with our shelter for a few months now, however in the limited time she has been here she fit right in. She believes in our mission and has been a great asset to her co-workers. She is always willing to cover shifts, help where needed even outside of her departments duties. If a co-worker is behind she will step up and help out. I appreciate her work ethic. She also loves to spoil our senior dogs and makes their lives a little easier by doing so. I am proud to say she is part of my team!
