Pawling Science Students Earn Honors
at Dutchess County Science Fair
The Pawling Record - On March 30, ten students from Pawling High School’s Science Research Program, two ninth graders, and three students from Pawling Middle School competed at the 60th Annual Dutchess County Regional Science and Engineering Fair. In addition to the participants, several other Pawling students in the program volunteered at the event, helping with registration and judges’ ratings.

Held in Falcon Hall on the Duchess Community College campus in Poughkeepsie, the event is held in affiliation with the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Students from throughout Dutchess County gathered to showcase their research in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Space Sciences, Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Physics.

Judging at the event was conducted by a panel of scientists, educators, engineers, and professionals from the Dutchess County community. Students were judged on the criteria of scientific thought, creative ability, skills, clarity, and thoroughness. Several Pawling students were awarded accolades and prizes.

Athletics
Spring Sports Roundup
Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse
Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse had a quick start with a 7-2 record for the first half of the season.  With these seven wins, the team has already qualified for the Section 1 Championship tournament. This is the quickest the team has clinched a playoff berth. Winning against teams like North Salem and Irvington for the first time in their short program history highlighted this amazing season thus far. The girls are now playing for a top seed in the playoff brackets and expecting a home game for the first round!

Pawling Varsity Golf
After nearly 30 years of coaching Pawling Varsity Golf, Don Utter, has handed over the reins to his assistant of three years, Brian Ostyn, PHS 11th Grade ELA Instructor and modified wrestling coach. Student enrollment this season is the largest in the school’s history with 30+ students across four grades. With the hiring of assistants Steve Malone and Joe Amuso (also PHS varsity wrestling coaches), no student regardless of their experience or background in the sport was cut from the 30+ roster. PHS Golf will be graduating ten seniors this year, with incoming 11th graders who have the ability to start next year.
Pawling Varsity Softball
Pawling Varsity Softball is led this year by its four senior captains: pitcher and shortstop Ali Parent; first baseman Emily Wall; center fielder Bela Santiago; and right fielder and leadoff hitter Frankie Fleming.   Off to a a sluggish 2-5 start, the team is looking to capitalize on its talented players, and make a strong run at sectionals.
Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse
Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse, a young team challenged with injuries and a wet season, is playing hard in every game. Sophomores, Aidan Clowry, Trey Pfister, and Gino Riina, and Senior Brett Giannantonio have become the forefront anchors for the team with a great comeback win vs Albertus Magnus (6-5) and a tough overtime loss vs North Salem (7-6).
